I know this is a random question, but I started to play Breath of Fire III on the PSP (thank goodness the PSP is region free!) and I'm about to enter what is probably my least favorite part of the game: the Balio and Sunder saga. Does anyone else hate this part of the game? Well, I don't hate it... but those guys are just so damn annoying. How does everyone else feel about this part? I just feel the rest of the game is way better.

I hate very large portions of this game, so the answer is yes.

The absolute worst has to be that goddamn desert sequence though. F*ck that sh*t.

God, no. Balio and Sunder are no match for the desert and following futuristic city.

You probably not going to buy this but I don't have much of a problem with those segments for some reason. I'll admit it's kind of annoying to go back into the desert to find the Royal equipment (if you even bother), but I guess there are segments in other games that annoy me more than these.

i finally finished my BoFIII playthrough last year after giving up twice on the game in the distant past. i started from scratch, and the only time i looked at a walkthrough was for the desert area i think. incomprehensible areas like these made me hate RPGs in my early childhood. not fun at all. other than that, i didn't like the cruelty towards the main char in the first half of the game.

the sprite art was excellent. it made me realize strongly how i miss this graphic style. indies just don't have the budget to make big games with sprite art like in Suikoden II or the BoF games.

I wanted to get the royal gear, but felt stymied at every point. It may be moot; I abused the crap out of the mentor system, so between War Cry and Shadow Walk/Aura decimated most anything that stood in my way, anyway.

Well, to be honest when it comes to BOFIII you're better off sticking with physical attacks like those you mentioned in BOFIII. Magic (and magic users) really get the short end of the stick in the game. BOFIV kind of fixed that a bit, especially with it's combo system.

I'm kind of going to go off topic here and kind of eat my words about magic at the same time. I just got Magic Ball from the game's first master and I never realized how good this is for a early game spell. You can get some pretty nice damage with this.
