I still have a lot of catching up to do on his works but certainly give a hearty recommendation for his Dances with Wolves score.  Well-suited to VGM fans I think.

I'm honestly barely familiar with his work but I just ordered a 4-CD compilation so I can see what I've been missing. RIP, sir.

The man is a legend. Such an amazing body of work. I'd been tweeting my favourite, which comes from the opening of an old film, Beat Girl. Here it is - http://t.co/adH5Wvx

I just love the guitar in it. And, as a bonus, the movie has a young Oliver Reed flailing around like a lunatic.

John Barry will be missed but his contribution to music will be felt for a very, very long time.

Nooo! I loved Barry's music so much. sad Man, talk about some shitty news. This makes me sad...

The James Bond franchise was one of the things that really turned me on to film music and Barry had a lot to do with that. It also inspired me to check out Jazz. And Barry has so many other great scores that he's written as well.

Any specific album recommendations from John Barry's body of work?  The Lion in Winter and from his 007 scores The Living Daylights stand out on Filmtracks' composer tribute page.

My favorite Jarry Barry scores are Somewhere in Time, Dances With Wolves, and The Black Hole. The last is only available as a digital download or a vinyl (or a boot), alas.

"Dances With Wolves" is a classic and definitely worth checking out. I'm a big James Bond fan, so I'm very familiar with Barry's work on that franchise. I'd say my favorites would be The Living Daylights, A View to a Kill, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and Thunderball. Loved every second of those.

Honestly though, most of John Barry's work is fantastic. So depressing... sad
