Have people heard of this? First time I've hard of this! Apparently it's dolls...er, I mean "action figures" from Nintendo games.

Thoughts? I really don't know what to think of this. Silly? Brilliant? Maybe Nintendo will enter the adult industry soon with the Adult Amibo line!

ps I can't help but think they could have come up with something a bit better than "Amibo"! I keep thinking of this:

Yeah, not too big on the name myself. I see how it works by correlating to words like "Wii" and "Mii" but I just think of amoeba when I hear it.

As far as my thoughts on it as a product...? It's brilliant. Stuff like Skylanders and Disney Infinity are like crack for kids... and this is just another "dealer" per say. I just feel bad for the parents that are going to have to shell out for a third rendition of these things. Kind of glad these things weren't coming out when I was a kind... I'll stick with Pokemon Cards back when Wizards of the Coast had the license.

Parents don't typically she'll out for multiple kinds of things like this, they have short 1-3 year lifespans as children outgrow them. Skylanders kids probably won't be too into this and a new generation of kids will pick this up, to be replaced in the future by something else. It's how product marketing works for young kids, short product life cycles.

Yeah... I guess I'm not thinking how fickle kids are...

It's disappointing that this is a market they feel they need to pursue...essentially contributing to more plastic crap in the world, for a generation of kids that will outgrow them in 3 years - it seems wasteful...but it is only part of the Nintendo brand...I guess if I had kids ..or kids of the age where they cared about this kind of stuff, it could be of interest...but I'd feel like a failure as a parent if my kids were encouraged to desire unnecessary chotchkies, lol

I think I read somewhere that your standards for parenting significantly change once you actually become one wink.  Everyone always says "My kid will never do THAT" and then they had kids.  That do THAT.

I'm sorry, but if I ever have a kid they WILL NOT hang off my damn shopping cart like an (expletive) cereal bowl caddy.

Freaking HATE that.

Then again, the toys that DO stick around when we're kids are the ones that usually become legendary.

*goes back to Castlevania III on NES*

Totally, can't think or say "cereal bowl caddy" without thinking of Ren of Stimpy.

Glad I don't collect this stuff! Nintendo is making a killing off it, but it looks like it's become a thing for people to purchase huge quantities and then sell them off at extravagant prices. Latest fiasco is this amazon exclusive:

ps I still think "amiibo" is a terrible name! Although I would argue that Wii and Wii U are also lame...
