So I've got a bit of extra money kicking around and am thinking about downloading some games onto my 360 and/or Wii. Any recommendations? I'm interested in pretty much everything. I already have:

- Megaman 9 (Wii)
- Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (360)
- Braid (360)

I like the LostWinds games on WiiWare.

PB Winterbottom on XBLA is cool.

Isn't there a new 2D CV coming out on XBLA?

It's a multiplayer boss-rush type thing, not a regular Castlevania game.  It also appears not to have any new assets at all (not that this is new for the series... some of those sprites are still in use from Rondo of Blood, aren't they?).

As for recommendations, I'll second LostWinds.  Tales of Monkey Island is great if you haven't played/can't play it on PC or something else where Telltale put effort into the frame rate...

XBLA I've primarily used to play Rare games - Banjo Kazooie & Tooie and Perfect Dark.  All great upgrades from the originals.

Limbo for Xbox Live Arcade.

2D platformer/puzzler/adventure/horror masterpiece.

Wii
---
Neves Plus is fun if you're a fan of tangram puzzles.
Konami's ReBirth line is great for relatively fresh, challenging content in a Genesis-era aesthetic.

360
---
'Splosion Man is a great little piece of mayhem.
Rocket Knight is OK, but it doesn't feel much like the originals.
I'd recommend Bionic Commando: Rearmed, but I imagine it's sheer hell on an XBox pad.

I've also picked up Max and the Magic Marker, Zombie Panic in Wonderland, The Maw, and Shadow Complex, but uhh, haven't got around to actually trying them yet (terrible with this habit), so have some trailers. I'm also late in getting that Snoopy Flying Ace title, but I've been borderline paranoid about firing up the 360 in the heat of summer, it feels like tempting fate when you don't have central air conditioning.

Mega Man 10 seems like the obvious follow-up -- unless you truly didn't enjoy 9.

I second 'Splosion Man and Bionic Commando Rearmed for XBLA.  After Burner Climax is great for several short bursts of play, and World of Goo for Wiiware is a terrific physics-based puzzler.

WiiWare?

Mega Man 9 & 10 (though, you already have 9, right?)

LostWinds (there's also a second game, Winter in Melodias, I think it's called).

There's the 5 Strong Bad games, if you care for Homestar Runner & Strong Bad, or point-and-click games in general; if you're not familiar with the franchise, you might not find it as endearing, though...

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ~ My Life As King

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles ~ My Life As Dark Lord (especially recommend this one; think of a cross between Disgaea - for the zany comedy - and Grim Grimoire - for the RTS gameplay and medieval fantasy theme).

Eduardo Samurai Toaster - a platform shooter along the lines of Contra, humor along the lines of Earthworm Jim; short game, might keep you occupied for an hour-and-a-half, but it's a nice atmospheric experience, and if you're just looking for something to help you rewind at the end of the day, you can complete it in one sitting).

Contra ReBirth

Castlevania ReBirth

...

I think that about seals it up, if you're looking for familiar stuff by major companies

XLord007 Jul 26, 2010

For WiiWare, I recommend Contra ReBirth, Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth, and the two LostWinds games.

For XBLA, get Shadow Complex, Perfect Dark, and Rez HD.

Shame on me for forgetting to add Cave Story to the WiiWare list since it's probably the best game on the service.

Ditto on Cave Story...can't believe I forgot that one either >_<

I haven't been using my Wii a whole lot, lately, so that's why...

Granted, if it weren't for VC, I'd hardly even own one; there's not a whole lot of games that I'm interested in that actually use the Waggle that's so oft promised...and even the ones that have Waggle don't have a lot of Waggle to them...

For 360 i say Ikaruga and my freaking favorite:  OMEGA FIVE!  What an awesome shooter with awesome music!  Must buy!

FuryofFrog Aug 5, 2010

My suggestions are as follows

XBLA
-R-Type 1 & 2 (There redone in HD with options to go back to originals)
-Ikaruga (Shmups + Treasure = Love)
-Castle Crashers (If you like Beat Em Ups this is a must)
-Shadow Complex (If you like Super Metroid this is a must)
-Garou Mark of the Wolves (If you like fighting games this is one of the finest         specimens

WiiWare
-Contra Rebirth (Like the Alien Wars for SNES get this)
-CastleVania The Adventure Rebirth (If you like the old linear 'Vanias pick this up)
-Gradius Rebirth (Can you Destroy the Core?)
-Muscle March (Only get this one if you really like quirky JP stuff....I'm just gonna give you a vid for this one)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8BcndMxu44&feature=fvw
-Final Fantasy 4 The After Years (Nevermind it has shameless recolors of FF6 sprites if you like RPG's and a fun story get this WARNING: It comes in parts and can be a little pricey)

WiiWare:

Helix, fun dance game if you have two Wiimotes
Final Fantasy CC: My Life as a Darklord, surprisingly addictive, "tower defense" in the literal sense. (Not to be confused with Crystal Defenders which is completely different and sucks.) My Life as a King might also be worth your time but it's not as good.
Swords & Soldiers, nifty 2D RTS.
NyxQuest: get this instead of LostWinds, it's much better.
Cave Story: try the freeware version first if you need to know more about this.
Tomena Sanner: fun, quirky, humorous, with 1-4 players, at a great price.
Muscle March: not as good value as Tomena Sanner but it's also "unique"...
Robocalypse: Beaver Defense, if you're looking for a slightly more "traditional" tower defense game.
WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase: Not the best WarioWare game by a long shot, but the free weekly downloads give it great value, and the games are fun enough for short bursts of entertainment. It also has a (somewhat silly) multiplayer mode for up to 4 people.
Zombie Panic in Wonderland: not a very long game, but has fun arcade shooting action while it lasts. You might be better off getting a retail release like Sin & Punishment 2, though.
Jett Rocket: a solid 3D platformer, but again, not very long.
Space Invaders Get Even: It's sold off in 500 point parts, so you can try it for cheap and get more when you want to.

XBLA:
Pac-Man Championship Edition: very good "modern" rendition of Pac-Man. Suffers a little from the 360 gamepad, haven't tried it with a true arcade stick or a better d-pad, but you might have one of those since you have SF2 HD Remix.
Galaga Legions: likewise, a modern rendition of Galaga, but without the control issues.
Braid: it really is pretty great.
DeathSpank: the writing is great, but you might want to hold out until the game is on sale.
