Someone, please tell me this is fake.  Tell me it's a really good Photoshop job, so I can stop laughing my ass off.

I mean, really... of all places for it to happen, and of all times... At the Olympics, during the opening ceremonies.  In China.

I don't get why it happening in China specifically would add to the humor. Am I missing something?

James O Aug 12, 2008

the article is saying it happened at the Olympics, during the opening ceremonies... where tons of people are watching.  I'd say (if it is true and not photoshopped) it's a tad embarrasing...

absuplendous Aug 12, 2008

I get that, but the way Abrahm phrased things it suggests that it was even better than merely happening at the Olympics.

Possibly because there's a good chance that copy of Windows was pirated.

I'd say it's not a fake, going by all of the other pics that are linked at the bottom of the article. Man, and I think it's bad when a high profile machine at work BSOD's... at least millions of people don't see that!

What in the phrasing suggests that? He said "In China" at the end. So as to clarify where, and the fact that it happened recently.

I think you're being pretty weird about this VB.

It's not an uncommon joke setup, like me saying

"I was stuck without a condom on a Saturday night. (sucks) And I was the only guy there. (really sucks) And it was a nymphomaniac's convention. (really really sucks)"

That's a bad "joke" but you get my point. I thought Abrahm was going for the same thing, and I suppose the punchline was along the lines of what BAMAToNE was suggesting.

I don't think trying to understand something is being pretty weird, but whatever.

Ramza Aug 15, 2008

The weird part, IMO, is that you were implying another board member's willingness to make some sort of racist joke. Understanding is cool, I guess. I think he just did the joke setup without meaning for there to be a punchline. He's just adding another piece of the list of cirumstances in that "sentence-by-sentence" format.

Now if you want a racial joke, the post about it being a pirated copy of Windows does the trick. tongue

That wasn't my intent it all, but I'm sorry if it came across that way.

Okay.

You know, I can be quite analytical at times, myself.  But I also know there are times when heavy analysis isn't necessary, especially when there's a risk of transforming the subject and/or destroying its original intent.  There was no racism or any kind of defamation stated or even implied in what I wrote.  Yes, it happened "In China", where the most-watched Olympic Games opening ceremony of all time (due in part to China's not-so-small population) took place.  There's your 'punchline'; I don't know why you needed an explanation for it.  It was just an observation, and nothing more or less than that.

absuplendous Aug 17, 2008 (edited Aug 17, 2008)

I wasn't implying racism either or suggesting that you were. I wasn't trying to overanalyze, just understand; I was just curious as to what you meant exactly, nothing more or less than that. I'm quite surprised people are taking my interest in what it meant so seriously/personally/offensively.
