Trailer

Uhh, someone tell Midway that April Fools is over. Oh, wait, this is real? This was rumored to be in the making, but I never once thought it could possibly be true. I mean, how on earth is this going to work? DC would NEVER let their heroes perform fatalities, much less get fatalitized.

I know comics are known for their nonsensical crossovers (e.g., Batman vs. Predator, X-Men vs. Star Trek), but this takes the cake. Then again, I just remembered Soul Calibur feat. Star Wars and Smash Bros. feat. Snake, so maybe this isn't as crazy as it sounds.

This reeks of a desperate play by Midway to capture some of Capcom's past success with X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter and the two Marvel Vs. Capcom games.  I think they've already said that fatalities are out since DC won't let its characters be maimed.  At any rate, it looks terrible.  It'll probably sell at least ok for the novelty factor, but I doubt it's going to reinvigorate the fighting genre the way Capcom's Vs. games did back when they were released.

Mm, too bad..... But I sure wouldn't mind seeing Batman driving a batarang right through Kano's head.  Or, ooh, the Penguin can turn into a true penguin -- super-sized -- and squash his opponent into a bloody pulp with his giant flipper!  Animality!

Think Mr. Mxyzptlk will turn up as a playable character?  I can see some serious cheese-techniques potential happening there. ;)

Here's to Huntress duking it out with Kitana. Yum!

Ryu Apr 19, 2008

What a horrible idea.

Zane Apr 19, 2008

Oh boy.

I can't add anything to the previous comments, sentiments are exactly expressed.

Whoever greenlighted this project had to be smoking some serious $hit!

Amazingu Apr 20, 2008

Kotaku already reported on this and stated that the game will, in fact, NOT have any fatalities.

So yeah, Mortal Kombat has hit rock bottom too, which is pretty impressive considering they didn't start very high in the first place.

There goes my hopes for Ryu and Batman Vs. Ken and Robin...

/good idea because Capcom came up with it first and they should've let Capcom have it, tossed Midway out...

These videos look so bad I can't help feeling they have to be fake but, if not, check out the shitness here - http://www.destructoid.com/your-first-l … .phtml#ext

Those aren't "real" vids - they were taken from the Kreate a Kharacter mode in MK:Armageddon (which rules). It's easy to make replicas of other characters in that game; I have Viewtiful Joe on my memory card!

Jay Apr 22, 2008 (edited Apr 22, 2008)

Ah! That explains it. I thought it just looked too bad.

Edit: Ah yes, it says so right in the text I didn't read.

Kenology Apr 22, 2008

I thought you couldn't get any dumber than Yoda and Vader in Soul Calibur...  Man, am I eating some crow now.

There's so much potential, though! Superman already comes equipped for the laser eye and freeze breath fatalities. There's also tons of potential with Green Lantern's powers. And Wonder Woman could, umm, make people tell the truth.

I remember one character (Scorpion?) actually did have a penguin animality, and Sindel had a bat animality. Maybe they were already foreshadowing the crossover back then? wink

Interestingly, Ed Boon says MK vs SF almost happened. By way of Kotaku:

That's such a shame, because a Street Fighter vs. Capcom game would be cool, we'd love to see it...

Boon: Me too. I still want to see it happen.

Such an awful, awful typo.

Or perhaps that was the actual question to try and test what Ed Boon knows about games wink
