The Japanese on both the OST and Creid is 「神無月」(kannazuki), which is ye olde Japanese name for October.  I believe the origin of "June Mermaid" might be from the U.S. game's sound test - and we all know how well translated early Playstation era Square games were...

Hahaha... yeah. Same can be said about SNES RPGs as well though *cough* Breath of Fire 1/2 *cough*

Still, Xenogears had a sound test?

Cedille Nov 8, 2010

It had (I remember hearing those awesome music in the sound test and even recorded them in a tape), but the track name was just place holders.

That's good news. I'm quite excited for this. Xenogears is one of my all-time favourite classic soundtracks. Really hope I end up liking the tracklist.

RinoaDestiny Dec 9, 2010

Oh man, February 2011 is gonna be an expensive month for me. Tactics Ogre (PSP) comes out then, too and I'm not missing this one. Love the Xenogears soundtrack and the CREID arranged OST. I hope to God that 'Awakening' and 'Flight' are on the tracklist.

REALLY disappointed that Bonds of Sea and Fire isn't on there - that's always been one of my favorite tracks from Xenogears and I HATE the melody changes they made to it on Creid.

Well, judging by the video, it seems that Bonds of Sea and Fire made it in.  And if that choir session is any indication, "Dark Dawning" is looking like a strong possibility as well.

"Dark Dawning?" Is that another translation for "Awakening"?

Dark Dawning, Dark Dawn, Dark Daybreak, Light from the Netherworlds..... however you'd like to call it, it's the first track from disc 1.

oh, ok... Light from the Netherworlds, gotcha.

That would be silly, since that's just the US PSN release. It's been on Japan's PSN for years.

I'm more excited about the prospect of Threads of Fate being released.  And after that, we may be one step closer to getting Brave Fencer Musashi over here as well.

Wondering who's going to be carrying this in stock...

Otaku has it for pre-order, along with Octave Theory and the Last Story. That's convenient.

So, how cool are we with the finalized tracklisting?

01) Dark Daybreak - Orchestra Version -
02) My Village is Number One - Orchestra Version -
03) Flight - Orchestra Version -
04) Unstealable Jewel - Orchestra Version -
05) Stage of Death - Orchestra Version -
06) The Wind Calls to Shevat in the Blue Sky - Orchestra Version -
07) October Mermaid - Piano Version -
08) Bonds of Sea and Flame - Orchestra Version -
09) The Gentle Breeze Sings - Orchestra Version -
10) In a Prison of Peace and Regret - Orchestra Version -
11) lost... Broken Shards - Orchestra Version -
12) The Beginning and the End - Orchestra Version -
13) SMALL TWO OF PIECES - Orchestra Version -
14) Faraway Promise - Piano Version -

A shame that "Awakening" didn't make the cut, but it's a promising set nonetheless.  I'm most curious to hear how "The Gentle Breeze Sings" turns out; if done right, it could end up being the most beautiful piece we hear all year.

Tim JC Jan 18, 2011

I'm pretty well pleased with that list. A surprise to me is "The Beginning and the End"; wonder what that will turn out like.

Ashley Winchester Jan 20, 2011

I'm kind of pleased to see Stage of Death on there. I know some people consider that track uninspired but I've really grown to like it for some reason.

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 20, 2011

Anybody know if there's going to be a special first print version of this?  There are few albums these days where I'd care, but this seems like one where I'd like to have it.

AFAIK there is no special ltd ed or first pressing.   (at least from looking at VGMdb and CD Japan)

Pellasos Jan 28, 2011

it's over. the arrangements are close to the source material, so i don't think many people will be disappointed.

i'm happy with the result, this disc will be in my collection soon smile

Angela Jan 28, 2011

I had captured a recording of the stream, but due to the spontaneity of the announcement (I only knew about it just minutes after Pellasos mentioned it), I missed out on "Dark Daybreak".  So, unless other like-minded individuals snagged a recording and it's spread like wildfire on the likes of Youtube and Nico already, I'll gladly do an upload after I've edited the songs into their own tracks.

My initial impression of the album is that it's quite nice, even if some songs got slightly shafted when it comes to satisfactory length.
