Just started playing Xenosaga II for the first time ever, and I'm surprised that there's actually...music during the gameplay! (As opposed to the case of Xenosaga I, in which only very few locales had music during gameplay)

Anyway, I'm actually getting smitten with some of these pieces, but they weren't on the soundtrack album...anyone got a nice game rip of the gameplay music pieces?

Ahh, good 'ol Xenosaga...I'm getting good memories of the first game all over again!

P.S. Dude, cars are destructible objects in the game?! WTFBBQ.COM...

Herrkotowski Apr 20, 2009 (edited Apr 20, 2009)

I can provide one when I get home if someone doesn't beat me to it. I really enjoy the music as well. I really do hope that one day Supersweep does publish this music (much like their Rockman EXE music, which also needs publishing...) as I really enjoy what Hosoe did here, especially the final battle theme!

Ashley Winchester Apr 20, 2009 (edited Apr 20, 2009)

I know where to find the gamerip, I'll send you the link as the site also hosts OST rips and I don't want to tread on STC terms of service.

Actually, the piece that plays during that scene - "Chase" - is probably my favorite piece from that game. Well, it's probably tied with "Fatal Fight." So full of energy. The rest of the game can pretty much sod off - I really hated it outside the story. I still need to play pt.3 but it's harder to find than Pt.2. Everywhere I go only has Pt.2 but not 1 or 3.

Edit:

I need to go through the gamerip myself at some point, as I've only gone through the movie scene soundtrack with a fine-tooth comb. Wasn't this handled by Shinji Hosoe?

Herrkotowski Apr 20, 2009

Yes, the BGM portions were handled by Hosoe.

Doubt it's ever going to happen, it's been about 4-5 years since the cinematic soundtrack was released...Xenosaga's kind of old news these days...

What I was talking about was how, when you're playing the game, automobiles, among other large objects, are destructible obstacles. I guess I can buy them being destroyed by gun fire and the like, but when Shion destructs them with but a karate kick, that's some serious suspense of disbelief there.

As for the highway scene, I found how all those vehicles were stopping so suddenly and piling on top of each other, to be rather humorous, just because they're stopping so suddenly, and piling up without each blowing each other up...

Part 3's REALLY worth it; they try to make the battle system more like Episode I again, but improved. Played through the first dungeon, and from just that, I like it so far.

Atleast you can play it, Namco nicely screwed us Europeans, first not bringing Episode I, then bringing Episode II with cutscene DVD containing story of Episode I and then not bringing III in here. <3

Gotta love game companies saying "FU you dirty european players".

Wow, that sucks. You guys didn't get Xenogears either, right? Still, if I lived in Europe the game I'd be most upset about not getting is Wild Arms 2. Don't know what I'd do without it in my collection.

I heard Europe also missed out on Chrono Trigger. That seriously sucks. Ephidel had a point, didn't he?

Amazingu Apr 21, 2009

Europe hardly used to get ANY JRPGs back in the day.
Final Fantasy VII was the FIRST FF to be officially released over there, not counting Mystic Quest.

No Xenogears, no Chrono Trigger/Cross, no Parasite Eve 1 (but we did get 2), no Breath of Fire 1, no Earthbound, noone gave a damn about Europe at that time.

We did get Terranigma though, unlike the US, which makes up for something I guess...

Well, the thing that sucks the most is Konami not releasing Suikoden III in here, but in the near future I'll will have my revenge, by getting a better comp for emulating those PS2 games I'm missing, bloody hell.

Anyways, I do also have the gamerip of gameplay music and if Herrkowski doesn't have time to upload it, I just might have.

Herrkotowski Apr 22, 2009

I was under the impression that Ashley was giving him a link to it, but if he still wants me to do it, I surely can!

Oh, proves how much I can read nowadays.

Anyways, Ashley, how big is the rip you have? Around 188 megs with 31 tracks? Wondering if there is a better rip around.

The rip I linked to only has 30 tracks:

3 - - Character Battle [+]
3 - Victory Theme.mp [+]
4 - - Major Boss Battle [+]
5 - - Second Miltia [+]
6 - - Evading The U-TIC Organization [+]
7 - - Minor Boss Battle [+]
8 - - Records [+]
9 - - Moby Dick's Cafe [+]
10 - - Uzuki Residence [+]
11 - - U.M.N. Control Center [+]
12 - - Vector Industries, Second Division [+]
13 - - Subconscious Domain (Sakura's World) [+]
14 - - Subconscious Domain (Summer) [+]
15 - - Subconscious Domain (Winter) [+]
17 - - The Elsa Von Brabant [+]
18 - - Robot Academy [+]
19 - - Ormus Stronghold [+]
20 - - Ormus Stronghold - Countdown To Self-Destruct [+]
21 - - The Durandal [+]
22 - - Kukai Foundation [+]
23 - - Foundation Fishing Lab [+]
24 - - Old Miltia (Submerged City) [+]
25 - - Labyrinthos [+]
26 - - Omega System [+]
27 - - Space-Time Anomaly [+]
28 - - Final Battle [+]
29 - - Desert [+]
30 - - Industrial Plant [+]

As for the size, I'm not sure, you can't do a mass DL. Like I said I should probably DL them anyway as I need to refresh myself with the music and see if there is anything I want.

I have an unfinished, unpublished interview with Shinji Hosoe that I was working on with the creator of ffomake.com ... I don't think the interview is going to see the light of day, for a variety of reasons.

Anyway, in that un-finished interview, Hosoe spoke openly about this music. The basic story is that he wants to publish it, but Namco Bandai holds the rights to the music, and he would actually have to "buy" the rights back to self-publish it. Or get an agreement to publish it and split the sales. I'm not sure what would happen there. But anyway, Hosoe's made a few stabs at trying to get the legal red tape out of the way to publish this, and has not been able to succeed.

So, if this album never comes to light, it will not be for lack of trying on the composer's part.

I would say that that is an unusual case of extremely good customer service.

Damn, that sucks...

...

Well, now, here's a question: How much of the in-game music was included in the Xenosaga III OST? Is it the same deal as the Xenosaga II OST, in which only Yuki Kajiura's pieces got publishing?

Herrkotowski Apr 28, 2009

Yuki Kajiura was the only composer for Xenosaga III and only a handful of pieces were chosen for an album release.

That site I sent you a link to has the game rip for three as well.

Kakichi May 17, 2009

Can you send me a copy of both II and III's game rips too? I've been looking for those forever. Thanks in advance!

Interesting this is the case, yet he managed to publish Ridge Racer 6? Did he manage to buy the rights back for this one or did Namco Bandai treat Sweep Records like a normally record label? Anything else interesting in the interview?

lordskylark May 19, 2009

Isn't there actually three composers for Xenosaga II?

#1 The Movie OST that was released (FMV cutscenes)
#2 non-FMV cutscenes
#3 gameplay BGM music
