Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Some fairly slim pickings this month.  I already bought Sweeney Todd on DVD today.  If Okami Wii is still on track, I'll be getting that.  I'm halfheartedly looking forward to The World Ends With You, Mario Kart Wii, and Grand Theft Auto IV -- but the title I'm most looking forward to is SNK Arcade Classics Volume 1.  I'll likely be picking up the PSP version.  Sengoku on the go?  Yep, please.

Funny story about Sengoku.  I remember vacationing with family down in Florida one summer.  I think it was 1992; I was twelve, if I'm not mistaken.  Anyway, we came upon a cafe during one of our tourist rounds, which had a NeoGeo arcade kiosk featuring Sengoku.  I spent our whole lunch hour there just playing Sengoku, before having to be practically dragged away from the machine to continue on our way.  At the time, I remember not only wishing that I could have Sengoku available for play at home (NeoGeo was something I could ill-afford back then), but I also stepped up that wish into one those wild, youthful gaming fantasies that I could somehow have it replicated on a portable system that I could take with me at anytime.  How I had the itch to play more of the game that night at the hotel!

Who would've guessed it would take sixteen years to reach such a reality?  I should head back down to that same Holiday Inn in Kissimmee this summer after picking up the game.  Keep the room's mini-bar stocked, crank up the AC, plop down on the bed, and just play Sengoku.  Hell if I know if I'd still actually enjoy the game today, but hey, some fantasies just need fulfilling.

I'll be picking up Soma Bringer OST and FFXI Wings of the Goddess OST, but that's about it (unless you want to count my quest for Plok and Darius Twin on SNES).

Edit:

Have to agree with you there! That's one title that's worth its weight in gold smile
Definitely getting the PS2 version. I like the big screen (although you can connect your PSP as well I realize, if you have a HD TV, which I don't), and 16 Arcade classics... including Samurai Shodown! If you just purchased 2 of the games offered in this compilation on the VC, that's $18 which is already more than the cost of purchasing the PS2 title! Man oh man, I have to say I love SNK (they're up there with Atlus smile

cheers,

edit: Now, any chance of a Samurai Shodown compilation and some Last Blade??

Just Grand Theft Auto IV - PS3

Looking forward to that.  Not sure what else is out or coming out this month that I would want.

I remember drooling over the preview for Sengoku in EGM. I could stare at the one or two tiny pictures for minutes at a time. Definitely one of my all-time favorite beat-em-ups. I have the home cart and the rom on my PSP, so I've been living the dream for awhile smile Can you imagine a remake on the Atomiswave?

Well, I'm not getting Golden Compass.  As for Shikigami no Shiro III, I'm actually waiting to see if the XBox 360 version will come out in the U.S.

Soma Bringer - After that review posted and those samples on Mitsuda's website? I haven't had a good RPG soundtrack from Mitsuda for the longest time since picking up Tsugunai ~ An Cinnunuit and the man's music is simply gorgeous. That first-press packaging looks mighty fine, too.

Omega Five - My first time hearing SuperSweep at work and my first exposure to Hiroyuki Iwatsuki. For that, I consider the music damn awesome and perfect for busting loud in my car on the road. More tasty electronica would be great for 2008.

Just so you know Angela, the best song in the game is the Stage 2 song (The Ruins of The Mall).

Sengoku's music was always a low-key factor for me; I guess it was the noisy public settings that never made me take notice.  Playing through headphones should rectify that problem soon enough.

But the sound effects?  I remember the game having some fly-dope sound.  Beefy hits, swords clashing, creepy Kabuki chanting, wolf howling.... It was absolutely revolutionary for its time.

Hello guys smile

I am kind of new here but about release I dont have much that I plan on buying this month. In term of games I already got Condemned 2 which came out here last week in the UK. There is Mario Kart Wii that I played saturday and really liked, so will most problably buy. With the fall of SEGA Direct there are no major new soundtracks I want to buy even though I got a few on the way.

Persona 3: FES and a butt-load of shipping.

I joined goozex for the free game and found myself hopelessly addicted to finding new games to ship out so I can get the ones from my request list!  Actually, so far, I've gotten Suikoden III, IV, V, Shadow Hearts, Grandia II & III, Granstream Saga and Sly Cooper.  I'm a happy gamer!

Castle Shikigami 3 for Wii got pushed back to May.

Not familiar with goozex. I did check out the site, looks weird. What's the premise? Also, they say they give you 100 points, but it looks like games "cost" much more than 100 points.

cheers,

Goozex is nothing more than a HUGE database of people willing to trade their videogames instead of having Gamestop buying them back for much less.  Oh, and 100 points is equivalent to about 5 bucks - I got the first Sly Cooper for 100 points (that was my free game for joining this month).  The only thing you pay for is shipping games out to the people who want them and the trade fee of 1 dollar per trade.

The really good/rare games cost more than 100 points, that's a given.  I just traded in my PS3 version of The Orange Box (meh) for a cool 900 points (roughly 45 bucks), which then gave me enough to "buy" Shadow Hearts.  Check out the FAQ if you have any big questions.

I've got rid of alot of filler in my video game library and gotten some real gems in return.  I couldn't be happier.
