I got it in the mail a few days ago and want to report it's like Guilty Gear in some respects. I've never heard Ys music rock so hard. So, yes, if you don't have it - get it.

I can't say I liked the entire album, but there were about 4 tracks that had an awesome Yngwie Malmsteen-style shred going for them. A little thin-sounding and arguably not as memorable as the older stuff, but Scarlet Tempest, Silent Desert, Scars of the Divine Wing and Overdrive (a rarely-heard early Ys track that appears in Origins) came out really nice. Didn't like anything else...Yay Feena. *skip* "My Lord, The Brave" would have been awesome if they had ditched the orchestra elements and let the track just f---ing GO! I liked the original "Oboro" much more than what the arrange became. And being a fan of the original "Genesis Beyond the Beginning", I hated this new version with a passion...No, you don't rape the tempo, remove the bombastic guitar/choir and add a piano. I'll take the original version, which still has balls intact please.

Ultimately disappointing as a whole, but several great individual pieces. I'd love to see the "classic" series arranged in the same way the 4 pieces I mentioned were done.

Already ahead of you; I'm getting Ys Oath in Felghana, and Ys Origin - both the original soundtracks and super arrange versions. The music samples I heard were awexome.

I've always heard great things about Ys, but never enjoyed what I heard as much as I expected to (Ys Book 1 & 2 Duo rebook, Ys IV PC 1-3, Ys I PC, Ys II PC, Ys III Oath Music Box), but I dig Origin SAV. I expected to listen to it and then forget about it, but after a couple of listens I put it on my "to get" list instead. The lead guitar isn't loud enough on a lot of the songs, but the album is really enjoyable otherwise. Even the first track wasn't too bad... and I don't care for orchestral stuff.

Hmmmm...any samples available?

I can't say any version of Feena is particularly bad, they're just overabundant and the theme has been done to death on practically every Ys-related album. It (along with "Styx: A Premonition") is almost like Falcom's answer to the Final Fantasy Prelude. I just tend to skip it nowadays, no matter what version pops up.

I can. The last track on Heaven's Sanctuary 4. TWELVE f---ing MINUTES of nothing but Feena. I actually used to like the piece until I had to sit through that ordeal, but now even hearing anything that kinda sounds like the name "Feena" sends me into PTSD-like flashbacks. My dream of moving to Phoenix, AZ... ruined!

I think Ys Symphony 95's opening track was at least 10 minutes worth of Feena (out of a 20 minute track)...Makes the Symphony Ys medley (which only had 5) seem like child's play.

ALWAYS check RPGFan for music samples...for RPG soundtracks.

Duly noted, and thanks.

I like what I heard.  How difficult to order this along with the DVD Falcom Concert from the Falcom website (or a better source)?  Anyone know the cost?

cheers

Ah, ok, gotcha. Not bad for someone who knows just about nothing when it comes to Falcom, but given your analogy to Prelude, I feel your pain.
