do you get charged an international currency conversion fee on your card if you purchase from cd japan from america?  j/w

That depends on your bank which issues the credit or debit card.

Some banks charge a currency conversion fee and some do not.

hmmm do you know which banks don't charge?  have you used cd japan?  it seems like there are a lot of hidden fees......
would you recommend cd-japan or play asia?

Last I heard, Capital One is the only company that does not charge international fees.

I don't know about international fees, but I have been using CD Japan for the better part of a decade with no problems.  It's easy to use, things are packed with care, and the few times I needed to change things (when I moved to a new address) everything went very smoothly.

Yup, I can vouch for that. In fact, they even absorb the 1% fee that Visa charges.

CD Japan tend to charge more for shipping and handling than other retailers. For example, if you order one or two CDs from them it'll cost 1500-1850 yen for EMS. However, HMV Japan charge a flat fee of 1200 yen for one or two CDs. The difference is that CD Japan take a bit better care in packaging the CDs. They usually pack CDs in a sturdy box with bubble wrap, whereas HMV use bubble-lined envelopes.
