I was at the local mall the yesterday day and to my surprise they recently released the second season of this. Most of the episodes I remember are from season three so I haven't seen most of these ones. Only problem: I for got how much Comedy Central whores their wares on anything they sell - does anyone remember when buying a DVD meant you didn't have to what previews and promos? I miss those days...

It's a site that specializes in providing TV shows on DVD.  Their prices are quite high for what's essentially DVD-R copies (and the shipping cost is crazy too, even U.S. domestic), and I have no idea of the quality of the recordings, but they have my Ned And Stacey Season 2, so I'm giving it a shot.  I noticed they have a number of shows that you guys mentioned, such as TV Funhouse, The Tick, Reboot, Gargoyles, X-Men, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Ghostbusters, and Duckman.

I want the rest of Saint Seiya in the US.

At best, the complaints were about the quality of the video or packaging (damaged discs/cases). At worst, people didn't receive the sets but were billed anyway.

Well, that ain't too promising.  Now I'm not sure if I should cancel the order, or let it play....

Guess I should've done a bit more research before hitting up that order.

EDIT: Decided to cancel the order, once my credit card company told me that they're attempting to charge me fifteen dollars more than what was initially agreed upon.  No f---ing way.

Sorry, guys.  Thought this would be a viable solution to our DVD prayers.

Actually, The Tick vs. Season 2 was out when I made my post.

It just, somehow, managed to slip through all of my RSS feeds without me noticing, and I glance at those things almost as often as I check my e-mail. (Which is to say that there's no reason why I shouldn't have seen its solicitation)

They mention that their discs are region-free, and they make absolutely no reference to rights, licenses, or ownership whatsoever. It seems very bootleggy.

Actually, I was at Wal Mart the other day and after looking at DVD recorders for the hell of it and I was thinking how plausable it would be to do something like this yourself given the price of the one I was looking at - $80-90. This way you would know the quality was good since you'd have complete control over the editing and encoding process. From the prices I was reading people where paying for botched seasons/complete series this would be the way to go.

The DYI method of recording was something I had considered at one time, but sort of phased out when considering the time and commitment one would need to invest in doing something like that.  Plus, you're at the mercy of TV's syndication, so it could be a good while before getting every episode of your desired show.

Still, it's an idea that's sounding better and better now.  And it wouldn't be so bad for me and Ned & Stacey, seeing as how there were only two seasons.

Oh, it's completely illegal, and everything is a bootleg.  No question about that.

Nevertheless, I still had to cancel my credit card.  Definitely not taking any more chances with these guys.

Can't you report them for fraud or something regarding the overcharging?  I'm surprised the MPAA hadn't shut down their operation anyway.

I didn't get the set even though my mom did order it. It's either late or a rip-off. Time to raise some hell.

UPDATE TIME: Well, it seems I wasn't quick enough to cancel the TV Addicts order, since my account had been charged anyway.  The upside, though, is that they actually SHIPPED the order, and it arrived today.  I pretty much spent the day going through the set with a fine tooth comb.

I've kept my expectations low from the start, but it's actually pretty decent.   The packaging looks exactly as it was advertised on the site.  The DVDs are a no-name generic brand, and with the exception of some light smudges on discs three and four (which were easily wiped clean), I saw no physical problems with them. 

I didn't bother so much with Season One as I did with Season Two, but all the episodes appear to be intact and completely watchable.  The shows were, of course, recorded straight off television (the Women's Entertainment channel, in this case), so I did need to put up with the occasional "coming up next" ad that flashes on the bottom.  Both discs are heavily compressed using mpeg-1, so the picture quality is about as well as to be expected from a disc boasting 12 twenty-two minute episodes each. (Think "EP" VCR quality.)  The 2.1 sound channel is fine, and the editing is actually excellent; commercials were completely removed with proper fade-ins and outs.  I did check out Season One's disc 1 and disc 2 briefly, just to see if they used the commercial DVD release.  They didn't; it too was recorded off of TV.     

Conclusion?  I'm satisfied that I now have every episode of one of my most favorite TV shows, even if the visual quality is a few notches below average.  Would I order from them again?  Absolutely not.  They're a shady company, no two ways about it, and based off the many cited horror stories, I consider myself lucky that I actually got what I ordered.  I already took the proper precautions and steps to ensure that they don't charge my account again.
