The other thread got too long, and I feel this deserves a bit more visibility.

As was mentioned in the other thread, there is a seller on ebay that goes by the userid customspecialists who is selling homemade bootleg game soundtracks.

This is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill bootleg seller, selling SM/EverAnime stuff.

This seller will buy one copy of the original soundtrack, then make CD-R copies of it, press a false label on to it, then claim it is the "original" being sold as part of a "salvage lot"

The seller will claim boldly that he is "importing these legally from contacts in Japan" but we all know he's a one-person outfit making these in his basement or whatever, and tricking VGM fans wanting to buy the real thing into buying his fake CD-Rs at lower-than-imaginable prices.

The purpose of this thread is to make people aware of this seller, and to compile lists of his auction numbers that can easily be copied and pasted into eBay's "report auction" contact forms.

Here's how this will work - below are some catch-all URLs that will link you to the "report auction" pages for different categories.  Please report each group of auctions in each category to ensure that the proper team is dispatched to analyze and hopefully end the auctions.  Just click the "Email us" link and paste the batches of auction item numbers in.  Remember that each form can only accept TEN item numbers at a time.  I've separated them accordingly.  Here are the categories:

- Media on Recordable formats (CD-R, DVD-R, VHS Tape, etc.)
http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_ … 2_2_5.html

- Other replica or counterfeit items
http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_ … media.html

- Backup movies, television programs, music, etc.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/contact_us/_ … c_etc.html

The next post will be lists of the items, separated by commas, for easy copying and pasting into the links above.

Please, everyone, report these auctions as you see them, either by using the method above, or doing it by single item on your own.  I will compile new groups of 10 items every time the seller posts them, so we can all report these quickly.

Good luck.  Together we can shut him down. :)

I know this is a thread to try and take down this one seller, but I just found another auctioneer who's stuff is way too fishy.

speedboxauctions

I mean, an ost for Vay?  It didn't have one, IMHO, and even if it did, it wouldn't have the same label art as the domestic, Working Designs release.

Then there are the obvious frauds, the Panzer Dragoon Azel and Radiant Silvergun ost that are in dvd cases.

Sheesh, another case to have to report, again.

Ramza Nov 4, 2006

Both of these guys make me sick. Especially Mr. "speedboxauctions." Vay soundtrack: Composer = Working Designs. f***ing bullsh*t.

I'm with Amber. Let's send in loads of reports and shut 'em down.

Done my bit, sent the forms in. Let's hope something gets done about it (I don't hold out too much hope though).

Are all of speedbox's listings bootlegs? If not, what are the item numbers of the ones you know for certain are boots? I want to report all of them in a batch listing rather than individually.

All of them are bootlegs.

Here's the item lists for seller speedboxauctions, he currently has 16 soundtracks listed, and I am 100% sure all of them are homemade copies.  He just took scans of the disc/cover art from the games themselves. >:\

I reported everything on the list with two ebay IDs (dad's and mine). Is anything happening as a result of our efforts?

Thanks,

You know, as disgusting as it is, I am almost tempted to buy that Dark Wizard cd off that Speedboxauctions guy.  I know it's a boot, but that cd is damn hard to find legit, especially in the US.

Flockin' bootleggers, they make me ill.  It's so cute how Mr. Customspecialists shows the legit cds to collections he burns.

Of course, I then browsed his auctions and saw that he is selling all his legit cds.  Lmao, as if I would trust that they are really legit, and not SonMay or EverAnime crap.

Why are these people even still around??

oddigy Nov 7, 2006

ebay hasn't ended any of his auctions... -_-
Keep reporting, surely something will happen sooner or later.

seanne Nov 7, 2006

I've reported everything so far as well. Hopefully eBay will shut these guys down for good eventually.

raynebc Nov 7, 2006

I've been down this road.  Ebay never took action, and is most unlikely to do so now.

avatar! Nov 11, 2006

Last I checked, he has 103 auctions that have "music" CDs in them...
Maybe if we sue ebay, they'll learn (those assholes don't care about anything other than money).

their auctions descriptions say:

This collection is assembled from a salvage lot purchased from Japan.
Salvage = non-sellable inventory to due exterior damage
What we do:
1. Discs are removed from their broken cases.
2. Damaged cases and cover art are discarded in picture above and only CDs kept.
3. CDs are assembled into new collection and we create a custom cover for them.
4. Collections are shrink wrapped for protection.

the picture seems to show the actual digicube discs,, whether or not this is what they actually ship you is another matter...

overall, i can see cases getting damaged *cough cough amazon japan*,, but i hightly doubt they would get damaged in mass quantities enough that would make it worth their while to make custom sets like this. In instances where the case takes a direct hit enough to trash the inserts, i cant imagine the disc would still be in playable shape.

Even if the previous circumstances were met,, i highly doubt the "damaged inventory" would be offered to some foreign seller to liquidate on ebay.

Yeah, exactly.

I just had a thought, but I'm not sure if it would amount to anything in the longrun.

I though of perhaps buying one of his auctions, then checking the disks out, then blasting him with negative feedback to ruin his rep.

Unfortunately to do so would require spending money on crap cds, and even then there's no guarantee that the negative feedback, even if done by multiple buyers, would amount to anything, as it seems there is no end to the ignorant people who buy his stuff and don't realize they've been ripped off.  sad

Yes, well I did suggest your thought a while ago big_smile
However, no one replied to my suggestion, so I figured nobody else was interested in my little scheme.  This will certainly NOT work with just one or two people.  We need *at least* 10-20 people to purchase one or two CDs from this guy, and then leave him negative feedback.  Any volunteers??

But there's a problem with doing that.

I'm looking more closely at the picture and the description and it says that they remove the ORIGINAL discs from the original Japanese jewel cases and repackage them. ASSUMING that everything they say in their description is true, then they AREN'T bootleg sellers. Because they are the original Japanese discs and merely the OUTER packaging has been changed, then yes, the discs are indeed "real originals from Japan.

The only way that all bets are off would be if that the CDs are NOT the original discs but are instead CD-Rs. Otherwise, unless you receive bad service from them, you can't legitimately put negative feedback for the seller.

In any case, I have no problem with spending money to buy one of these collections and reporting it, if indeed they turn out to be CD-Rs. In fact, I'm willing to do that right now. Any particular set that anyone would like me to get?

Or Taiwanese bootlegs.

you can be sure that you will get burned cds, he provided many pictures that shows clearly  bad quality prints on each cd, so he just lying, and he knows it.
I asked him awhile ago if he could send me some more close up pics to his original soundtracks because I would like to buy couple of sets if they are indeed original - he replied, that last night his office had a flood, and all soundtracks have been lost, so he is not able to provide any pictures at the moment.
what a revolting turn of events,.

lordskylark Nov 14, 2006

My friend accidently bought one at one time - a newbie to videogame soundtracks. I can take scans. Let me ask him tonight.

Thanks.

Haha!

All... soundtracks... lost in a flood?  Hahhaha.
Sure, if they were bootlegs, the ink on the labels would run, right? XD

So why in bloody blazes has he NOT removed the listings, if this is indeed true?

The seller is a chronic liar, and every excuse he makes for anything makes my blood boil.

lordskylark: i lost track of the new stuff the guy has listed, and haven't had time to make new item batches.
could someone please take over? -_-

I started a new job yesterday (full time with an hour commute each way) so I'm probably not going to be around much anymore. :(

Schala: If you do buy one of those guy's lots, drop me an email.  There's a utility I'll want you to run on the disc that will tell you what kind of media it's pressed on.  Try to get a set that has some CDs identical to some you own, so you can compare the discs side by side.  I'm very interested in seeing how badly off his fakes are from the originals. :(
