Don't have a page count yet since the game is nowhere near done yet, but we're going to make sure the art books are of high quality - hardcover, good page count, etc. Physical art books obtained through the Kickstarter will also be signed.

That is good to hear. Still, $350 is beyond most people's price range for a book! Any chance we'll see a physical CD with music from the game or games and maybe a physical release of the game (or maybe a compilation of your games)? I would certainly be happy to pledge for a physical copy of the game.

I completely agree with Zeboyd's attitude towards stretch goals, but I wonder if the lack thereof contributed to the dropoff in funding after the first week or so of the Cosmic Star Heroine project.

Could be, but then project will be funded and that's all that matters. Especially when nowadays stretch goals seems to really push the project to be late or run out of money.

Is that really true (not being antagonistic, just asking a question)? I can see some crazy stretch goals as pushing a project too far, but you would hope that most developers have a decent idea of how much it will take to add this or that. To be honest, stretch goals are often really wonderful. For example, I think that Divinity Original Sin will be amazing, and a large part of that is that they reached the $million mark and were able to reach all their stretch goals. As for taking more time due to stretch goals, I think that's basically a given. But...since you're getting (hopefully) a MUCH better game in the end, isn't it worth the wait?

I think that when we talk about bullshit stretch goals, we all have specific examples in mind.  The one that comes to mind for me is the Code Hero MMO, which will live in infamy as long as crowdfunding is a thing.

I remember buying that game when it first came out and not getting it to play past the spooky intro on my buggy first-generation single-speed CD-ROM. Wonder if it was any good.

I loved it. Note that I enjoy "spooky" tales and puzzles. Here's what Wikipedia says about it:

"The game received a very positive response and was very successful, with over two million copies sold. It is widely regarded as a killer app that accelerated the sales of CD-ROM drives.[2] Bill Gates called The 7th Guest "the new standard in interactive entertainment."[3]"

Cool idea to keep up with various Kickstarter projects! I've been loving the Kickstarter platform so far. Already backed several fantastic projects. :3

Really excited about Unsung Story at the moment. Spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle from Yasumi Matsuno? Count me in!

Good call! I forgot to list this one. I hope they make it! These type of games are some of my personal favorite. When they have awesome characters and a deep storyline smile

The_Paladin Feb 4, 2014

The fact that there is no way they hit the Sakimoto stretch goal kind of kills it for me with Unsung Story...

Not necessarily. Sometimes stretch goals are lowered (depends on if the guy really wants to join the project), and other times the project finds outside funding as well. Still, yeah it's hard to say if they will actually reach their goal or not.

TerraEpon Feb 5, 2014

It especially sucks because they are allowing $10 extra to get the OST, but don't say who the composer is going to be if it's not him....

Boco Feb 5, 2014

Yeah, was really hoping to hit that stretch goal and I get the feeling that they were too. Still have my fingers crossed. Sometimes there's a rush of funding near the end of the project. Bee and Puppycat got off to a slow start and then finished strong. Then again, tactical JRPGs fill a rather specific niche. :-/

Boco Feb 10, 2014

Unsung Story just announced that Hitoshi Sakimoto is officially joining the team regardless of the Kickstarter outcome. Not sure if that means he will be scoring the entire game or just contributing, but it's good to know! I know we were all worried about who would be writing the music.

The_Paladin Feb 10, 2014

Well, would be good news if it were actually going to hit its goal.  Certainly projects have raised over 100k in 3 days, but it seems as if it has run out of steam.  I think it would have gone better if there had been even pre-alpha pictures of the game to show rather than mere sketches.  If I were them I would start work on the game to actually have something to show, then relaunch the kickstarter.

Truth.
