This comes as a pleasant surprise. They're really filling in the blanks with things like the Wonderswan Rockman & Forte and even the CPS1 version of Rockman: The Power Battle. I never got the first sound box, as the 2002 set and a few other discs covered most of those bases, but this is fairly tempting for all the unreleased stuff alone. I'm particularly jazzed about Rockman World 5, Rockman & Forte, and the CPS1 cuts of Power Battle.

Yay! Totally buying.

Still, I doubt it will tell us who did some of compositions like the GB scores.

Edit:

Okay nice to see rockman rockman on there and make that one bonus disc obsolete.

Totally killer to have rockman world on an official disc tho! love that one.

It's gotten to the point where I cannot avoid. I'm definitely picking this up, along with vol. 1 and the Rockman X box. I need some Rockman music education.

Wait... there's a volume 1 as well? I thought the eCan and/or the rockman 1~6 box constituted volume 1.

Vol.1 is a reprint of the eCan: http://vgmdb.net/album/47713

I never did buy the eCan. I'm taking a risk by buying these new ones because the very first Rockman boxes were not legitimate (legal, but not legit); they had music ripped from emulators, according to my ears.

You can rest easy in that this set will reportedly "use recordings from the original game substrates, so there's a possibility of tracks having noise." I hope that means noise in the "straight from Famicom hardware" sense, and not "includes game sound effects in the tracks a la the Rockman 7 disc."

The set is also said to have "partial selections" of soundtracks.

I'm just gonna smile and tell myself it's gonna be okay.

I just want to clear this up as what you said makes me wonder. The last part about Rockman 7 you're talking about applies to the Team Entertainment release. The Rockman 7 disc (and 8) in the E Can was a new transfer and doesn't have all those SE warts. This is pretty much THE reason to have the eCan IMO.

Edit:

Also, Rockman 1 & 2's music is somewhat distorted in the eCan. The higher peaks in the instrumentation are somewhat distorted and affects quite a few tracks. If they re-release what was in the eCan at another point down the road I have to wonder if they will fix this. The problems with 1&2 is the only reason I still have my 1-6 box - the recording volume is lower but the tracks aren't distorted.

I might buy this just to have an actual disc of The Power Fighters.  I see that one for sale in Akihabara every once in a blue moon and it generally costs almost as much as this entire set does.

Not to dump on your post... but am I the only one that has kind of fallen out of love with Power Fighters/Power Battle audio over the years? I remember when I first heard it and thought it was all sorts of awesome but now I kind of find the synth quality kind of grating.

However, this box will fill in the blanks (the tracks we didn't get) with the eCan.

It still holds up and for years they were the only noteworthy albums with Megaman music on them, but the thing is I'd just much rather listen to the NES music, so it doesn't get much playtime from me because of that. The CPS2 soundtracks of the time all tended to sound similar (especially the guitar synth), so it was definitely a love/hate kind of thing.

What's interesting though is there is both a CPS1 and CPS2 version of Power Battle. I don't expect much difference (based on Street Fighter II music on CPS1 and CPS2, with CPS2 having the upper hand), but I didn't know the game existed on both boards.

absuplendous Sep 30, 2014

While the arrangements are the same, they're definitely distinct in terms of sound. As someone who prefers the NES tunes, you may find the CPS1 versions preferable to CPS2; they sound a bit more limited without sounding like a downgrade, almost like an expansion to the Wily Wars soundtrack. In any case, I think they definitely have their charm, and I'm really glad they're getting their own soundtrack release. Check it out for yourself:

I know this is a real nitpick (and first world problem) but anyone other than me kind of dreading ripping this sucker to their hard drive and labeling those tags?

I mean I already have doubles for NES 1-6 (because of the problem I described above) and this and many of the The Power Fighters/Power Battle tracks were on the eCan since they were used in MM1-6 PSX... only in the former case they are probably going to have different names (the original names) they had on the original albums.

Damn it... as silly as it sounds I'm really anal about keeping my music library tidy.

Actually, the more I think about this whole chunk of info, maybe it's just Capcom running some hardcore CYA in case a problem pops up during the ripping process.

nope, not really. That's part of the fun of getting a new album, at least for me. I don't go above and beyond for my personal shit though. Whatever it comes labeled as is generally what I use, I don't really bother with all the exploratory research some other people do as far as who composed who or sound team breakdowns by ear. Of course, sometimes I change my mind later and retag them, too.

Ashley Winchester Oct 5, 2014 (edited Oct 5, 2014)

Does anyone know if Rockman 1 & 2 are going to be re-recorded for the Vol.1 Box?

Probably won't know until samples are up.

Edit:

Also, those wanting to obtain a much better rendition of 7's soundtrack I'd jump on Vol.1 as it's basically a reprint of the eCan.

The_Paladin Oct 5, 2014

I might have to jump on both even though I'm certainly concerned about recording issues... so I haven't preordered anything yet.

Ashley Winchester Oct 27, 2014

Vol.1 is coming out in a few days if I recon correctly... can anyone who scooped it up give us a rundown after they listen to it?

Holding off on Vol.1 since I have the e-Can and see if there is any corrections. I did order me Vol.2 action however.

Should probably mention this since it was bumped. Word is no corrections. Music is identical to Rockcan.

The_Paladin Nov 7, 2014

Still trying to convince myself that despite early games'  sound being messed up so it won't replace the old 1~6 box, that the PSX 4, 5, 6 and a fixed 7 soundtrack make the box worth it... but can't see paying full price for that.
