I'm curious to see how this game will differentiate itself from Nioh.

After having played through a substantial portion of the game, I can honestly say that it's very much in line with other From Software titles. Their usual indicators apply; punishing, yet fair gameplay, visually arresting level designs, fast-paced boss battles, and a bevvy of hidden items and areas to find.
Genichiro's fight halfway through was basically the moment where you learned the hard way to parry and deflect. Until then, I had relied pretty heavily on hit-and-run tactics for bosses, supplemented by my prosthetic tools, but Genichiro (much like Artorias in DaS) controls the pace of the fight, forcing you into a defensive role for the entire battle. After that, I steamrolled many enemies.
Good game, for sure.
