19 years is not a long time. You can still find sealed albums of 80s albums so yeah, nothing special here. smile
(I already have a sealed copy of Dracula Best 2, that's 1991.)

OK, I'm going to call you out on this. Show me where you can find sealed 80s video game albums for sale? I'm not talking about albums that have been reprinted, but out of print albums from the 80s.

Years of patience, auction sites, online shopping sites, contacts in Japan, collectors in Japan and everywhere else. Hard to find but I did find some, including Dracula Best 2, the tape version of Dracula Famicom Collection, MIDI Power Pro 6 and more. I saw a sealed Dracula MIDI Collection and MIDI Power X68000 Ver. 3 a few years ago, but someone else bought them.

That's early/mid 90s, and if you want the very early late 80s releases from G.M.O., King Records and others, the same hunting principles apply, although it will be a much longer hunt. Doesn't matter really, it's the search that's interesting.

This one's from October 1988, you can see the original "CDTA" tearstrip running vertically.

OK then, so you admit it's very hard and time consuming. Thus, I would argue that when you find a sealed unopened CD from the 80s it is indeed "something special".

For you maybe. I think most of us just want to listen and enjoy the music (which obviously means opening the CD). To each their own.

I agree and disagree.

For example I have 18 amiibos I'll never open or use with their associated game. I basically use them as shelf candy. I imagine that could annoy some people because I'm taking product out the of stream available and not employing them for the reason they were made. However, none of them are the rare/expensive ones, I think the rarest one I have is King Dedede which, yeah, I had to go out of my way for that one.

I also have a few sealed and graded video games, but again, they are common titles: Mega Man Dr. Wily's Revenge (graded) and Star Gladiator (sealed). However, I have unsealed copies of these on hand as well.

But yeah, I do have to agree with music. I'd open a sealed CD so I could rip it to my computer. I just bought a copy of Thunderstone's 2002 debut Thunderstone off of discogs and the seller gave me an awesome deal considering the album is fourteen years old and out of print. Again, there isn't a high demand for that album, but other people were asking $50 for a sealed copy when this guy asked $8 + shipping.

However, to each their own and yeah, considering what was said elsewhere I guess I'm the only idiot collecting CDs.

I usually have at least one used copy of the albums I have/want a sealed copy of, especially Castlevania.

Besides, sealed or used, whatever floats your boat my friend. I'm past these arguments. I buy a bit of both, what I like, and as long as I can afford it smile

In my experience, a lot of older sealed albums have faded obis, due to sun exposure over the years.  Specifically, because the obi is outside of the jewel case, I believe it gets more UV exposure than the rest of the album (which is obviously inside the case).

LuxKiller, out of curiosity, has this been an issue for you?  Or do you not really mind if the obi is faded?

LuxKiller65 Dec 29, 2016 (edited Dec 29, 2016)

Yes, it happens a lot with older sealed albums, I noticed it too. I believe most shops still use neon or similar lights in Asia, which "eat up" colour with time. Since albums are usually stored with the obi part sticking out, the rest being protected by light...

You will notice that usually, the obi is faded a lot, and then a slight vertical line of fading makes it to the front/back of the obi, but only a little, where it can still be reached by light. So you can end up with a 3-colour obi:
- Very faded on the side
- A little bit faded at the beginning of the front/back
- Not faded on the rest of the obi.

This one here is another case, the orange faded to yellow, except the spine part where it basically faded to white. Poor thing.

(Notice how blue and purple have not been affected, or very little.)

And yes, I mind, but it won't be a deal breaker unless the fading is as bad as the example pictured above (which isn't a sealed album anyway). smile

Those are some seriously strong offers!  If I had one of these sealed I’d sell it right away at those prices.

Thanks smile If you see anything please contact me. Life's too short to always be cheap. Sometimes it's OK, just not always big_smile

I'm also after the Konami game music collection vol 1, sealed CD and tape version. That's gonna be even harder but who knows, maybe a grampa shop in Japan has a copy hidden inside a drawer.

midi power ver. 3 found!

Good job, that one hardly ever shows up used. I'm curious to see how long this hunting takes. Capcom may have Monster Hunter, but STC has the Sealed CD Hunter! (Monster Hunting is probably a lot easier.)
