Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Amazingu Jan 24, 2008

Just got my order from Club Nintendo yesterday, and I was as happy as a kid in some kind of store.
After listening to it carefully twice, I can conclude that this is the best Mario music I have EVER heard, as well as being the best soundtrack of 2007, I love it to DEATH. And beyond.

Also, since this is a Club Nintendo only dealy, and I hate seeing lots of people trying to earn money over it when Nintendo is too arsed to just sell it, I have ripped it and put it up at sendspace for your aural pleasure:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/lcnxcj

It has every track that has live instruments in it, not just the actual orchestral ones, PLUS it gives you the new synth arrangements of Athletic from SMB3 and the original Mario theme, meaning that this CD actually has ALL the themes I needed.

Excellent.

I've heard four people reporting of their shiny new soundtrack in the past hour... thanks for sharing it with us!

I'm a little confused about the editions. I had thought that the one-disc orchestral version was to be for sale and the 2-disc complete soundtrack was for Club Nintendo only. Or are they both for sale, and is this a third club-only version with exclusive tracks?

Is this the one disc soundtrack?
I'm really curious what's on the 2 disc one....

1: Know your Simpsons quotes, young lady wink

2: Yes, this is the one disc soundtrack.
There's two versions and they're both only available through Club Nintendo if I'm not mistaken. This one contains all the music with live instruments in it. The 2 disc one should contain all synth music as well.

Thanks so much for posting this.  It's appreciated, especially for those (like me) who missed the boat on reserving a copy.

I was showing a friend of mine yesterday just how frustrating "Luigi's 100 coins" was and then I was reminded just how great the music is.  Thanks so much for this!

Zane Jan 24, 2008

I'm getting nervous about this 2-disc OST release. I haven't heard anything from NCSX about it and PA is still having their pre-orders as "announced". This rip makes me want the CDs so badly. O_O

Me too. You preordered from NCSX, right? When I did, I didn't get any kind of email from them at all, though I got it in well before they stopped the preorders.

NCSX is one of the best importers online so I have faith in them, but still...

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 24, 2008 (edited Jan 24, 2008)

Hopefully we'll hear something soon.  Amazingu, thank you SO much for uploading this.  It should make a nice teaser for (hopefully) getting the full two-disc album in the mail.

Edit: There are some of the regular editions up on Yahoo! Japan auctions, but only two of the Platinum, as far as I can see.  Presumably Nintendo JUST shipped these out, so theoretically we should hear something in the near future.  Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Also, Amazingu, are there composer credits for individual tracks?

Vaeran Jan 24, 2008

Just wanted to let Zane and Eirikr know you guys aren't alone; I also preordered from NCSX but all's quiet in my inbox so far.  We've gotta have faith...!

Yes, I did. I just checked my e-mail history and I have an e-mail from 11/21/07 with an order number and confirmation that it was a "credit card order", so we'll see how that goes. Vaeran, you're right... we gotta keep up the faith, dudes...

Ephidel Jan 24, 2008

Play-asia still haven't put their's up! I'm still waiting, refreshing the window! Still no response, *sigh* !

Dammit - I just checked mine, and...there it was! I don't know what was worrying me, then. Must have been something about the preorder process that just didn't seem...official.

So Vaeran, check that inbox of yours, I'm sure it's there! smile

Vaeran Jan 24, 2008

Oh, I should have been clearer. I definitely have a confirmation of my preorder from them. What I want now is a shipping notice. :P

Bernhardt Jan 25, 2008

I ordered the 2 disc version from YesAsia when this was first announced; hopefully I don't get stiffed. According to their shipping estimates, I won't be receiving it until February...well, that's about 10 or so days down the road...or less.

Qui-Gon Joe wrote:

There are very short liner notes, like one or two sentences, on each track by its composer.
The vast majority was done by Yokota, including the arrangements of old Kondo music.
If memory serves me correctly (I don't have the CD with me at this moment), the only new stuff Kondo did are the three "Rosetta's Observatory" tracks.

Peppyman Jan 25, 2008

I ordered mine from NCX or whatever it's called aswell...I sent them an email a while ago and they said estimated dispatch for the platinum edition was the end of the month and they'd email their customers if there would be a change.

I had a feeling that I wasn't listening to the same ol' Mario music.  If this is what we can expect from Yokota, then he's welcomed to the Mario series with open arms.

NCSX better hurry the hell up.  They're makin' me nervous right about now.

Amazingu wrote:

Well, I was right about that track.  But when you get a chance, please re-check and confirm that this is indeed all he did.  If so, I'd be really suprised.

Here's what I think (thought?) he wrote from this thread

Kenology wrote:

he songs that Kondo wrote for Galaxy are*:

- The opening stage theme/Grand Finale Galaxy theme
- The lobby theme ----> [correct!]
- Melty Molten Galaxy
- The final level stage

* There's no methodology to my madness, this is just based on my own gut.  The soundtrack will prove how right/wrong I am assuming they don't pull a Wind Waker on us.

Arcubalis Jan 25, 2008

If he only did the Comet Observatory, that's kind of a cheap "three tracks."  Granted, they're good, but it's just a single track with different layers.

Kanji Jan 25, 2008 (edited Jan 25, 2008)

Major props for the upload, Amazingu. Thanks for sharing the love - this is fantastic music all around. Well, I've only listened to about half of the disc so far, but the quality's been so consistent that I think I'll be digging the remainder as well. Egg Planet and Honeybee Kingdom forever!

Wanderer Jan 25, 2008

Yeah, looks like Kondo wrote the three Observatory pieces and Good Egg Galaxy.

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 25, 2008

One quick nitpick - I just noticed that the ID3 tags on those mp3s read "Masato Yokota."  Isn't it Mahito, not Masato?

Arcubalis Jan 25, 2008

Wanderer wrote:

That is technically 'four' tracks then.  So perhaps he did one more somewhere to make Observatory, Good Egg, and another to make a real three?

I don't think that was there when I checked last.  Thanks!

Angela Jan 25, 2008

Thanks for sharing, Amazingu!  The mastering on the CD is fantastic, although a few select fade-outs bother me, where they don't allow the track to finish its full loop before the fade-out.  (Egg Galaxy and Grass Beach are two such examples.)  That should easily be remedied by some quick editing, though. :)

Wanderer wrote:

Figures those are my most favorite pieces. :)  I'm so happy that they put all three variations of the Observatory theme.  I did a bit of editing and combined them into a single, five minute suite:

In my experience, NCSX usually doesn't send a shipping notice as follow-up -- they just ship once the item becomes available, and only email you if a problem comes up with the order.  So, consider NOT getting an email a good sign. ^_^

I am not aware of Mahito as a Japanese name so I transcribed it as Masato, which is very common, but then I don't know all Japanese names.
If it says Mahito in the English credits of the game, then that will probably be right wink

@Angela: Yeah, the fade-out thing bothered me too, just a little bit. But at least they still actually loop instead of pulling a Capcom on us.

But am I the only one not able to access your Briefcase?

Yeah, it's been giving me problems tonight, too.  If you're getting a "No shared folders are available" screen, just try refreshing the link until it works.

Haha. Yah, I should.
Homer is so wise!

1) Ah, beer. The cause of and the solution to all of life's problems.
2) English? Who needs that? I'm never going to England!
3) You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'.
4) Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

The Japanese Dubs for the Simpsons movie were pretty awful.  sad  I don't care if they're famous. They're bad..... such a difference from the original.

About the the OST, I'm impressed and I'm not easily impressed.... (looks out window)

Bah, for me UR MR GAY ost seems to be bit disappointment, only the arranged tracks from earlier Mario games are good to my ear. Maybe the hype in here was done it's dirty job or something.

Wanderer Jan 27, 2008

I'm glad they separated the discs like they did. The first disc is brilliant but the second disc is all the synthy filler and minigame tracks that irritated the hell out of me in the game.

the_miker Jan 27, 2008

What did NCSX charge for this back when it was actually available for pre-order?  I thought it would be hard to come by but YJA is flooded with them right now.  I just snagged the two disc platinum one this morning for like 23 bucks, sealed.

Mine came up to be $33 USD, sans taxes and shipping.  As far as a domestic option goes, I'd still say that's pretty fair.
