Totally disagree with you on Lost Odyssey.

So do I. And I think Chocobo's Dungeon is anything but amazing, also I can't see any similarity with Unlimited SaGa.

Here's my one sentence review for L.II Remixes: It's a little more laid back than his work on the first Lumines, but Nakamura delivers his sample-heavy electronic style one again for another solid album.

A couple of you could make much better use of the forums by posting your own "one sentence" (or longer) reviews if you feel so strongly about certain albums, as opposed to simply waiting for other people to post them so you can pounce on them.

I like the one sentence review idea, it was late and I was tired.

I'm not a fan of Lost Odyssey, there's too much asian instrumentation and it's rather boring for an RPG if you ask me.  There are a couple good songs but I didn't note which ones since I just listened while playing WoW.

Chocobo might not be like US: Electric side, I forget which side is which.  It sounds like disc 1.  It's also well recognized FF tunes remixed using whatever the Wii uses for sound and really sounds great.  Leviathan Battle is super  good.  It's composed 90% by Uematsu with 2 tracks by Tanioka, and one by each of Mizuta, Hamauzu, Nakano and Ito.  I thought it was all Tanioka when I ordered it, and I"m not the biggest fan of his stuff but the first two tracks are his and they're really really good.

Ashley I don't knwo if you were talking about the lost odyssey comment or the anato o yurusanai one, but either way I didn't like either album.  Anata o... was just ....... ugh .  Not my thing.

Looking forward to FFIV DS next week, I think? D:

I was referring to how I refrained from typing up anything up about Dew Prism because I wanted to avoid conflict because, let's face it - it's has a pretty devout following of listeners. The response your post received is pretty much what I'd expect in response of speaking ill of it. Of course, by explaining this I've defeated the whole idea of "refraining."

From what I've heard, Lost Odyssey is pretty quality.
It seems to be more "cinematic" than Uematsu's other work, which can take away from Uematsu's strengths such as melodies and simplicity.
Overall I'd have to say though, the melodies aren't nearly as enticing as they used to be in FF, in the old days Uematsu's melodies would grab you and wouldn't let go and here this isn't very  often the case, I often found myself bored of many tracks halfway through, but it's all still really quality.
One complaint though, I think Uematsu definitely lost his knack for vocal themes... the ones  here pale in comparison to Eyes On Me, Melodies Of Life, Suteki Da Ne, and even Kiss Me Goodbye, and it was the same case for Blue Dragon.
Again this is mostly because of the uninteresting melodies, which is a shame because melodies are Uematsu's strong suit.
But aside from that a fine OST, I would give it an 8/10 or 8.5/10.

BTW, all the battle themes are excellent, I think my favorite is Dark Saint... I know this plays in the second to  last battle and I like it better than the actual final boss music.

True Blue: Nice compilation with some excellent Jun Senoue / Crush 40 bonus tracks (19-21).

Minna no Golf Portable 1 & 2: If you're one of the lucky people who thinks the music in this series kicks ass, this two disc set is no exception.

Lost Odyssey: Too early to tell but so far shaping up to be better than Anata.

Super Mario Galaxy: A must buy that's going to be impossible to find in a week, good job Nintendo.

L.II remixes: the wind is wailing & co. > this.

Didn't listen to Chocobo or No More Heroes yet..

Being one of the very few game music composers I've actually met in person and the only one I ever talked to for a couple minutes, I can assure you that Kumi Tanioka is a woman.

Darius Remix:  Robotic fish get lucky at a shinjiku dance club.
Arkanoid DS: It's not lumines, but even the new tunes have a nice oldschool feel.
Rockman 20th albums:  Dr Wily is the man, his themes will rule forever.
NightStriker & Syvalion Box:  Zuntata remains an acquired taste for most.
Afterburner 20th box:  The FM-Towns versions are the surprise hit.

Nights: Jouney of Dreams - Too much Dream Dreams. Good other sutff. Also, too much Dream Dreams.

No More Heroes OST: Masafumi Takada is still the man, even if he uses the main theme often.

I agree 100% with this review!  It's pretty good.

I'm split on Lost Odyssey. Some of the tracks are forgettable but others are some of Uematsu's best (especially the battle themes). I'm going to give it a few more listens (which is further than I got with Blue Dragon).

Jacqueline du Pre - one of the true legends of the cello, I can't get enough of her Haydn concerto #1, and this box-set is amazing and worth far more than the asking price

De Pre actually makes Haydn interesting to me. Some would say that her overly-Romantic style isn't idiomatic with the music but I don't care.

Her Schumann, Elgar and Dvorak are lovely as well.

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon Labyrinth of Lost Time: A CD filled with some excellent Final Fantasy remixes a la Chocobo Racing, but this one's way more mellow (except for the battle themes, of course).

No More Heroes: Three discs of funky, rockin, awesome music, exactly what you'd expect from Takada.

Forest of glass: If you're looking for a good CD to fall asleep to, this is it.

Anyone else agree with me that this is the best month VGM has seen in a while?  It's not even over yet either.  I have yet to hear Silent Hill Zero, FFIV DS, and Star Ocean First Departure!

I'm positively dying to hear how track 16's Fragment of Memory came out.  It's a rearrangement of FF9's "Just Over Those Hills," isn't it?

One more thing about the Chocobo soundtrack.  Looks like the same guy who did the arrangements for this (Yuzo Takahashi) also did the music for Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales for the DS.  He also had 9 tracks on Culdcept SAGA for the 360.  I'll be giving these a listen as I'm very impressed with this Chocobo's Dungeon CD already.  I think we have an up and coming VGM composer on our hands here.  Watch out Koshiro, there's another Yuzo in town.

Thanks, Mike!  You know, I'm suddenly transported all the way back to the summer of 2000, when you provided those very first few rips/recordings of the Japanese version of Final Fantasy IX on these boards.  "Just Over Those Hills" was one of them, and I listened the hell outta that sample.  I can't recall if I had thanked you back then, so lemme make this one retroactive for ya. ;)

That's funny as hell.  I do remember that actually, cause that's back when I had just gotten my first mod chip for my PlayStation.  FFIX was the first import game I had for it and I remember recording a handful of tracks from the beginning of the game before the actual soundtrack came out.  Ahh, good times.  That's crazy you remembered that too!  You're very welcome though.  I'm always happy to spread the VGM love.
