Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

My initial impressions (some nitpicking to follow):

Packaging
-All of the tracklistings and notes in the booklet are in Japanese.
-Very little artwork in the booklet.  If you played the games, then you've already seen it.
-The case opens like a book, and the discs are the pages (in trays).

Breath of Fire
-No problems with the sound quality.
-Each track gets a loop (two playthroughs).
-The good ending track is missing!  But that's not a big deal because it isn't much different from the bad ending track.
-No sound effects track... all music on both discs.

Breath of Fire III
-Sound quality is MUCH better than the in-game/PSF music.  smile
-Each track gets a loop (two playthroughs).
-The original OST release had four arranged tracks.  They're not here.  sad
-Only one of the three battle victory tracks is here... not a problem.
-The boss battle music still has the voices/sound effects on top of it (just as it was on the original OST release).
-Karaoke version of Pure Again is missing!  That's not a problem for me; I never liked the original version.  tongue

I'll have more later.  Post your impressions if you got 'em.

I love the packaging.  Pretty sweet stuff.  The sound quality is great.  Nice summary.

Sounds cool. I feel bad for never getting into the series more, but I suppose there is always now. smile

Conn, you're missing out! Breath of Fire 3, in particular had awesome characters, and while the story is only palatable, it's everything that comes together to make it what it is. Customizing your characters with the Apprentice system was a blast.

And I still think that Momo is the asbolute cutest RPG character ever! Those big floppy rabbit ears were SO adorable! ^______________________________^

Every single person has his own definition of "cutest".Personally,Peco was a must in my definitive team.

I haven't heard a single note from the set yet, but this packaing is SEXY. Red on white, nice and uniform with the discs. Great job, Capcom! I just hope the music aside from BOFV is as sexy as the packaging.

The only thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of a composer breakdown for Breath of Fire I.  Oh well! sad

Hey JB,did you get my email?

Zaggart Apr 5, 2006

I wonder why Kahori hasn't lowered the price in her shop to something close to PA's.

Then you would maybe agree to sell it in some time(One month? Two?One year?)?Does yours have obi/spine card included?

I have to get it out of said box to find out if it has an OBI.  hmm

I'm disappointed in the packaging, if they were going to make it this bare I would have preferred something like the Oath in Felghana Music Box.  Oh well, it's all about the music right.

I've got to agree with Zane, I love the packaging.  So crisp, so simple, yet so sexy.  Before I got it the only image I'd seen was the one on VGMWorld so I was afraid it would be that ugly.

As for the music itself, I haven't listened much, but I'm quite pleased.  I know some don't like it much, but the music in BoF3 really resonates with me, so I'm glad to get a full OST.

Agreed, 100%. It's far from "filler", as I've read elsewhere. So far, disc 1 of the BOFIII soundtrack (er, disc 5 altogether?) is my favorite of the bunch.

I am afraid to anyone with a decent understanding of game music should know that the BOF3 new releases (not the ones already released, they have just been slightly updated here), are crap.  The reverb is wrong, the bass is wrong, the quality on some of the tracks amazes me.

Whoever did the remastering job on the new BOF3 releases needs help.  Seriously I have a very good ear and I listen to BOF3 for hours before I made my final decision.

Bottom line, they ruined the new releases of BOF3.  The remixes that they used are awful such as ODORO..they must have been on drugs.

The idea of a game soundtrack is to stay true to the original sound and add clarity, not put it through a remixer or move instrument levels, reverb and bass.

Sorry but I will do their job for them when I record the lot digitally using adobe audition, optical cables and Playstation 2 Optical out, as I did with the metal gear solid 2 and 2 substance music, my server is here >>>
