Editor's review by Adam Corn (2019-01-02)

String-focused soundtracks generally haven't held the same appeal for me as those with brass and/or woodwinds also in the mix - which makes me all the more impressed by Philip Sheppard's disc-one score for the character Kara in Detroit: Become Human. Aside from some atmospheric electronic accents his score is almost entirely strings, yet it runs the gamut from tragic and poignant character themes to dark atmosphere to intense suspense with more variety and emotional effect than many of its full-orchestral counterparts. The remaining two score discs are more typical cinematic-leaning orchestral background music, and the fourth disc of mostly vocal rock, blues, soul, and electronic tracks goes all over the place, meaning only those with a strong attachment to the game are likely to find the complete soundtrack worth buying. But that first disc deserves to be heard.
