Just found out about this.

A Wii exclusive Mickey Mouse game, with visuals that make it look like it was created by Tim Burton...in other words, dark and edgy.

Anyone else hear about this?

Definitely looking forward to this.

I've been hearing musing about this...I actually saw something on CNN briefly about it (The black melting wax Mickey ears as the logo), a few days ago, and it could be good.  Fall 2010?  Man, that seems like a long ways out for a Wii game.  That system seems so antiquated, but I continue to find some gems on that system...I guess it really is about the games sometimes.  Most of games I like on Wii have little, nothing, or alternative controls than Wii motion...I digress..

The new Mickey supposed to have RPG / Adventure elements...I am not immediately familiar with the developer/director.  Anyone else?

I've had my eye on this ever since it was revealed a while back. I love creative IP's like this, and I'm man enough to admit I still have an enormous soft spot for Disney. Wii Exclusivity has me trollfacing my friends, too. big_smile

I can dig it. I really enjoy the concept of the Wasteland. A place where all the things that people forgot about were banished, not remembered or loved. Reintroducing mischievous Mickey was a nice touch too. Too often nowadays people see the super duper nice Mickey. They forget his roots as a real bastard. As more characters entered the fray they split his character traits between multiple people like Donald Duck.

With that being said I am cautiously optimistic. I think its pretty interesting that the project lead on this thing is the same leader and series creator of Deus Ex.

One thing is abundantly clear. During the black and white, sidescrolling, platforming levels nothing really looks cool. No one can do platforming level design like Nintendo so anything poorly designed really sticks out here.

I'm no Disney fan, but this looks pretty darn cool.  If they can make it play as well as Nintendo's 3D platformers, I'll be all over this.

The title of the game is irritating me just as much as "Kirby's Epic Yarn"--come on, epic yarn!!?? It's like companies are now taking press releases and throwing random words from it to generate a title ("join Mickey on his epic adventure", "join Mario on his new adventure though mushroom kingdom"). Didn't like the platforming shown in the game, but the new paint spray to affect the world (Sunshine anyone?) should entertain me enough to play [the game] through once. I expect to be bored playing the game till about the last stages (where the game stops acting like a tutorial) though.

I don't think it's random at all.  "Epic" is the last word people would normally associate with Mickey Mouse, and they're using that contrast to distinguish their game from other Disney ones, right from the title.

Also, in Kirby's case, the use of 'Yarn' is also a pun, since it's sometimes used as another word for story. I think it's clever personally, but outside of silliness like the (now-renamed) Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman I don't pay game titles much mind.

I can't help thinking that this project was inspired by Disney's work together with Square-Enix on Kingdom Hearts; I wouldn't be surprised if they slipped some existential themes in there.

Well, if you've ever heard the expression to "Slip someone a 'Mickey,'" it means you put something intoxicating in their beverage without their knowing (same thing as "spiking" the punch, really).

So, it's kind of like, this game's gonna end up slipping you one helluva "Mickey," which is...kind of what I'm hoping to game will be like!

Mickey Mouse on booze, and for much win!

P.S. A good name for a bar establishment: "The Drunken Mouse."
