Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

    Pages: 1

Dais Feb 9, 2006 (edited Sep 19, 2007)

I would like to use this thread to list and provide catnumbers for all soundtracks which contain music from handheld games, whether original or arranged. Such music forms a rather small fraction of CD/tape releases of video game music, it seems, and it would therefore be quite possible to make this topic into a fairly accurate reference for people who wish to know what handhelds games have been represented in some form or another in album releases.

Er.....basically, I'd appreciate it if you guys would mention as many soundtracks for handheld games (or soundtracks on which handheld music is there, even if not the focus), keeping in mind the guidelines I've put below.

Please us English names when applicable!

Please do not mention soundtracks to games that have been ported to handhelds (such as Final Fantasy IV or Megaman Legends), unless they got a soundtrack release for the portable version. Also, please don't mentions games that draw some of their music from games with released soundtracks (Guilty Gear Petit 1&2&Advance, Zelda: Minish Cap), unless of course they got their own soundtrack release.

You do not have to use the format below! Just inform me of the existence and any important details!

I will be editing and updating this as new information is found/contributed, so it will hopefully become a useful resource for this sometimes neglected area of VGM. For the most part, I have chosen not to include single track samples, such as Lethal Strike (FFL2) being on the Kenji Ito × SaGa Battle Music Collection.

Thanks!

Ridge Racers Direct Audio is a DS soundtrack? I always thought that it was for the PSP version of the Ridge Racer.

Also two more:

GBC
Star Ocean: Blue Sphere Arrange & Sound Trax (ARRANGE and ORIGINAL, two discs, SCDC-00123~124)

GBA:
Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon Original Sound Tracks (ORIGINAL ONLY, SCDC-00365)

Still, there's probably few more that I don't remember.

Here's some more:

Gameboy Gallery Musics (TKCA-71254)
[Disc 1 Original, Disc 2 Arranged]

Teketeke! Asumikkun World, Gameboy Soundtrack (TKCA-30155)
[Which is called "Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World" in the U.S.]
Tracks 1, 3-5, 12 are arrange versions.
Track 2 is a drama track.
Tracks 6-11 are original versions.

Okay, updated with all current info, thanks.

Uh, on the Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green OST....what exactly is the second disc? I can't exactly find concrete details on it's contents.

Also, does ZMCP-2005 have anything to do with the gameboy games?

TerraEpon Feb 14, 2006

So then, nothing at all for Gamegear or Wonderswan that anyone knows aboout?

Disc 1 of the Makaimura box has WonderSwan music.

Dais Oct 10, 2006

Okay, I've updated with a few things, but I know there have been some recent PSP (and probably DS) games that have no doubt slipped under my radar. I'm especially thinking of games with promotional albums (like Deep Labyrhiuerhtn), and details about what is original and what is arranged on said promos would be appreciated.

*wonders if he'll ever have the attention span to produce one of thes topics for a regular console system*

By the way, does anyone know if a full rip of Ys Strategy exists? I'd figure that Ys fans would have made one by now, but...I don't exactly know where they go for meetings, or whatever.

There's another album for Riviera it was a freebie with the japanese gba version that had tracks from the game and a drama track at the end of it. If I remember when I get home this evening I will look up the details for you.

Blade Dancer ~Lineage of Light~ Bonus Soundtrack

Not sure if it had a catalog number, my actual cd is packed right now.  hmm

Ys Strategy got an actual disk release?!  Holy crap, I have to find that!  i downloaded the three free tracks from the homepage and loved them.

TerraEpon wrote:

Riviera was originally released on the Wonderswan, and the second disc has some unreleased tracks from it.

I don't know of any gamegear osts.  hmm

Ramza Nov 2, 2006

myaje:

don't know how I forgot to mention that. Yeah, that too. It's an American promo release (from NIS America) and does *not* have a catalog number.

Ramza Nov 3, 2006

Just remembered one for WonderSwan. I have no idea what the catalog number is, but there WAS a soundtrack release for the WonderSwan Card-Based RPG in the Cho Aniki series. I believe the game's title was Cho Aniki: Otomo no Tamafuda (the kanji on Tamafuda was a pun so it could be Tamafuda or Tamashii). I saw the album on eBay once, I believe champ-des-pins was selling it for $20, and it was an official release. GMR doesn't have it listed though so I'm having trouble getting info on it.

Portrait of Ruin OST
Luminous Arc OST
Mother 3i and +
Etrian Odyssey OST, Arrange, Drama and Promo
Lost Magic iTunes release
Jewel Summoner guidebook promo
Heroes of Mana OST

I also added a few footnotes, I'll review the list sometime later and see if there's anything else I should clear up (or people could point something out...)

Any others from recently that I've forgotten? Any mistakes I've made...?

(I read something on GMR about Hoshigami DS having a remix disc? Is this just nonsense or what?)

oh, and should I start listing vocal singles, like CLAP&LOVE / Why (WPCL-10434), which contains the vocal (and instrumental of vocal) for Crisis Core?

man, the Lost Magic soundtrack is really totally sweet for a game I didn't expect much of. Norihiro Furukawa needs to compose more DS games.
