If you're gonna remake an iconic movie (or a good movie about an iconic character) it ought to be better than the original or at least different.  This is neither.  Even given the similar origin story, aside from a less innocent, more brooding Peter Parker it's surprising how similarly this one plays out.  That includes both the good (sweeping, dynamic action though little we haven't seen already) and the bad (a shockingly badly designed villain and a bit of the cheesiness of the later installments).  The one area this remake possibly wins out is in Emma Stone's turn as the love interest, but even with her mesmerizing eyes and believability at work the first movie has a better love story.  And far more charm.

If you enjoyed the first trilogy and are happy to see mostly more of the same then this one's worth watching as a sort of version B.  But in years to come when I get the urge to watch a Spider-Man movie, it'll be the original two I come back to.

Pretty much my sentiments too.
Saw it last week, and it was okay, but it was far too much of a retread of the original and the villain wasn't interesting AT ALL.

I have to admit though, Sheen's Uncle Ben was great, and it's the first time in the history of the series that I've actually cared about that particular character.

I thought it was adequate, nothing more. I was also very distracted by James Horner's score, which was content to rip off entire sections from his earlier Star Trek II work.
