There will be a one-hour outdoor game music concert called "Joystick" in Malmö, Sweden tomorrow, August 20. The concert is free for all to attend. Here is the concert program:

Wizardry
Medal of Honor
Killzone - "Helghast March"
EverQuest II - "Character Creation", "Lavastorm"
Wagner - Ride of the Valkyrie
Super Mario Bros.
Commodore 64 Medley
Spider-Man 3
Final Fantasy VI - "Tina's Theme"
Final Fantasy VII - "One-Winged Angel"

The Commodore 64 medley includes the following games:

Defender of the Crown
Commando
Delta
The Way of the Exploding Fist
The Last Ninja
M.U.L.E.
Monty on the Run

It will be interesting to see how many will come out to listen to this. If the weather conditions are good, I think there will be many in the crowd not knowing much about game music, and hopefully they will be surprised how good the music is. It's also interesting that they've included a Richard Wagner piece.

Two game music concerts in two months in a country like Sweden! Very nice indeed. I guess after the success of Play! A Video Game Symphony in Stockholm, there will hopefully be many more concerts in Sweden and other countries too.

Can't argue with a free show, that sounds good.  smile

Hmm, is the event being produced and promoted by a particular performance group, or some other non-gaming entity, that makes for the observation of it being an audience who won't know the material?

The concert was held during a festival in Malmö, so the crowd could be very varied. Now afterwards, I can say that there where indeed many gamers there, but also those who were just curious what was going on this night. I hope even they liked what they heard.

My favorites: "Tina's Theme", the C64 Medley (with video screens) and "Helghast Theme" from Killzone.

The concert was a success and I hope there will be more of this kind.
