Heh, trust me, when it's revealed, the world will know.
As far as I know, there has been no formal announcement regarding either the PS3 or Wii launch date/confirmed price.
Brandock, what game is that in your avatar? It looks so familiar but I can't place it.

Kinda looks like Rygar to me.

Ummm.... both the PS3 date and price were officially announced at E3 back in May. There was much controversy everywhere, including this forum. PS3 is $500 (gimp model) or $600 (regular model) and hits the U.S. and Europe on 11/17/06 (Japan on 11/11/06).
The Wii price and date will be revealed sometime between now and TGS, most likely in about three weeks. The Wii will be no more than $250 ($200 is far more likely) and it's believed to be releasing in either late October or early November.
Companies aren't taking pre-orders for either system yet because Nintendo and Sony are only just starting to talk to retailers about launch quantities. Nintendo should be finished this soon, so I would expect more places to take Wii pre-orders than PS3 ones. Sony is widely expected to fall well short of the 4 million units they've promised to have ready by the end of the year and retailers are trying to be more cautious, especially after last year's 360 debacle.
Thanks Xlord.....yeah, I'll hang out over night to get a PS3 at a best buy, no schweat.......but no way will I accept the gimp model...lol...This is a rehtorical question, but why in the world of remotely decent 'customer care' would they make the gimpier version no upgradeable...
Oh and yeah, for those interested, that is the NES Rygar Avatar..IMHO still one of the most original games ever made

And the 500,000 unit US launch of PS2, which caused headaches on all fronts (including the large number of bum systems and not having replacements readily available). I'm glad I'm not on the retail beatdown end of this one...The PS2 mess was more than enough. 2 Different versions of the system, worldwide launch (read: likely domestic shortage), a month before Christmas...Have fun, Gamestop employees!
Hmm, I might have to look into one and ebay it 2 weeks before Christmas...

Out of curiosity, do you want one at launch for a particular game or do you just plan to sell it on ebay? Personally, out of the entire PS3 lineup, there are only two games I have any interest in (MGS4 and RE5) and neither of those will be out for at least a year.

Nah, I didn't think of the ebay angle...though that will probably be lucrative for a couple of months. BTW, you pretty much equate yourself to 'scalper' class if you do this...I hope no one here would stoop so low...My reason: I don't have an Xbox 360, (refuse to buy) and would like to start playing high def games, and Blueray DVDs...So what youa re essentially saying is that there's nothing special coming out during the launch?

To answer the obvious, to force the consumer's wallet by producing uncertainty about the gimp version's ability to hold with future games. Sony already said that all games will be playable on the cheap version, but what I foresee them doing is keep adding more features in games that only apply to upgraded versions of PS3, to the point that they neglect features for the base console. So I won't buy a PS3 probably for years until I have been able to see their long term plan as far as this is concerned. Hopefully many other people will too and Sony will realize that screwing with customers is a bad thing.
Found a list of launch titles (deep from the internet...**cough** gamespot messaging board)
1. Warhawk
2. Resistance
3. Strangle hold
4. Fatal Inertia
5. Tony Hawks
6. Fight Night R3
7. Rainbow Six: Vagas
8. NBA Live 07
9. Tiger Woods PGA Tour
10. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Developer Interview(4:52)
11. Ridge Racer 7
12. Madden 07
13. Call of Duty 3
14. Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom Developer Interview
15. Bladestorm: The 100 year War
16. Sonic The Hedgehog
17. NHL 2K7
18. Flow (PS3 Hub download)

20. F.E.A.R - Proof

Man, those interviews are definitely PS3 killer apps. Much more than the predictable sequels we're seeing.
Eh, maybe holding back Zelda was a good move for Nintendo...I don't think Twilight Princess will have much trouble making a strong case against that line-up, Wii or Gamecube.
I think I'll be scalping away if I manage to get ahold of one (or two).

Heh heh heh

Pretty much.

Fine...don't get one

Ahahaha..
There's plenty of Sony hate dished around, and the judgments and calls on the PS3 are mostly unjustified. We'll see this coming November..

I won't (at least not this year). Can you honestly say any of those games is worth $660 + accessories and tax?

Nope. Knowing of Sony's hardware track record is more than enough to make me wary of paying anything over $200 for their systems ever again.

Not sure, since I rarely play games these days to the end (the last game I finished to completion was...Ys VII? ) Damn...Anyway I'm not expecting the PS3 (nor have I ever expected any new video game system) to have a killer app available out the gate. I think I've done pretty well holding off on picking up an Xbox 360, thus, the games that are already available on that system, now available for PS3 will make the purchase semi-wise...But yeah, I can't wait for the new system. I do agree however, the price tag could cost Sony in the long run...Time will tell..
