Here are my thoughts...

1. For the most part, the college you go to does not matter.  There are some exceptions (e.g., Harvard, Oxford, Julliard), but for the most part, the college that you graduate from and the degree that you get only matter for your first job.  If you are ultimately seeking a professional degree, like a J.D. or M.D., your law or medical school will matter far more than your undergraduate degree does.  Once you get a job, and start acquiring work experience, no one will care if you graduated from a highly prestigious liberal arts college or Craptacular State U.  All that will matter is your performance at previous jobs and the fact that you have a degree.

2. Crashing with friends is great for a few days, but you can't bum off of someone for a few months.  It puts a serious strain on the friendship.  It sounds like you experienced that when you tried being in Littleton.

3. You say that you got a job, but it wouldn't work because of a long commute.  Did you try looking for places to live that were closer to the job?

4. Saying that Littleton has people of higher caliber is pretty short-sighted.  There are bright people and there are dull people everywhere you go.  I think that you just happened to hook up with some brighter people in Littleton, and some duller people in Logan.  If you don't want to hang around with "stupid college kids", then don't.  Join a club and meet other people who will have more similar interests.  You may just need one good friend with whom you have a lot in common.

5. Have you considered something in between, like Colorado Springs?  It would have a lower cost of living than the Denver suburbs, but be close enough to Littleton that you could head out there on the odd weekend and still be in touch with the people you know there.

Since you sound like you want to go to university and finish your degree, I would recommend staying in Utah for the time being.  As I said before, it doesn't really matter what your degree is in, as long as you have one.  I have a Master's in chemistry, but work in insurance.  If you're only concerned with getting through, read through the student handbook, and find out which major would be the easiest to get given the classes you have already taken, then focus all your attention on the requirements so you can get out quick.  Utah, while not as glamorous as Colorado, is going to be a heck of a lot cheaper for you.  Less student debt = good thing.  Once you get your degree, start looking for jobs in the places you want to live.  You'll only be postponing your dream for a little while, and you will be far more comfortable in the long run (and once you do achieve your dream, it will be all the sweeter).

Definitely find a way to finish school, even if it means staying nearby.  That degree (and even the school's career services) can get you the first job, regardless of location typically.
