I'm in 41st place. Other than the fact that 41 is prime, I have nothing of interest to say.

Decided to check out the "Users" listing again, just for the hell of it.   Here's a breakdown of the current top ten:

1) Zane -- 1648 posts
2) XLord007 -- 1336 posts
3) Angela -- 1114 posts
4) GoldfishX -- 1110 posts
5) avatar! -- 959 posts
6) Ryu -- 926
7) Ashley Winchester -- 736 posts
8) Qui Gon Joe -- 701
9) Wanderer -- 671 posts
10) Jay -- 627 posts

As we analyze the new stats, we see that Zane took a dramatic leap up from the last time, even usurping XLord007 out of the top spot.  GoldfishX took a pretty massive step up too, and is now nestled in the top tier with the rest of us - and is just about running neck-to-neck with me. ;)  avatar! holds his number five position, and Ryu jumps from ten to six.  Ashley Winchester makes a new name for himself at number seven, and Qui Gon Joe takes the eight spot.  Wanderer continues to hang on at number nine, while Jay makes the foray into the top ten at ten.

Wanderer Dec 30, 2007

Clearly, the bottom rankings agree with me. wink

Idolores Dec 30, 2007 (edited Dec 30, 2007)

Angela, are you sure you're looking correctly? When I look at the users page, it shows you've made 1115 posts since you registered last year.

Whoa. Has it really been a year since the forum changes were implemented?

Edit: Sorry, just saw the update. Disregard this message.

Natch, real-time activity will obviously change the numbers constantly.  Maybe I should've said, "Here's a breakdown as of this posting."

With that said, I apparently really wasn't looking correctly, as I had to make some rank changes.  I left out Ryu and Qui Gon Joe..... sorry, guys!

Ashley Winchester Dec 30, 2007 (edited Dec 30, 2007)

Honestly, all the # of post tells me about myself is I have way to much free time on my hands... I wouldn't mind if Adam got rid of the posts count - ignorance would be bliss at this point.

Haha, yep. You're tellin' me! Oh wait, this is going to up my post count again...

Adam Corn Dec 30, 2007

Wow how did I miss this thread the first time around.

As has been mentioned lots of people register to take advantage of the added functionality (new posts link, e-mail) even if they don't post.  Some prospective new features will require registration as well so I expect that trend to continue.  Nothing wrong with the strong but silent types smile

As with most forums the default for this system was to automatically display users' post count along with their name and IP in every message.  I cut that code out (along with any ranking system) as I don't want posting to be a competition.  Having post counts available in the users listing is a reasonable compromise I think.

Idolores wrote:

Actually we are rapidly approaching the two year mark.  We should hold a party on Jan 16 big_smile

Hehe, yeah, I am. Oh, I had been meaning to send you that screenshot for the LONGEST time, too. I think it was mostly an OS9 annoyance...since we switched to OSX and I was finally able to use Firefox, I haven't had that same problem. (No comments about running OSX on an iMac please, thank you very much.)

Sorry, I misinterpreted it. At the beginning of this thread, it said you had 416 posts. I thought the thread was recent (since I didn't remember it at all). 1115 and 416 are numbers with huge differences. You can see where I was confused. XP

Qui-Gon Joe Dec 31, 2007

Wow, I didn't expect to be so high up there.  I'm not sure I actually contribute enough useful information to justify that.  >_<

Wow, I was surprised how few I had when this thread started and I'm even more surprised at how many I added since then.

Although since last time, I noticed how Xlord cheats by posting multiple times.

Kinda surprising since I never thought I posted much...

What do you mean "since last time?"  I've always done that, but not for any sinister reason as you seem to suggest.  I respond to one post with one reply because it's easier to do the quoting that way.  I don't have to bounce back and forth with multiple windows and try to mish-mash quotes.

GoldfishX Jan 1, 2008

I kid, I kid. It's just distinct is all.

Double posting at STC should be referred to as "pulling an Xlord". ;p

Yeah, it is a real pain if the quotes you want to tackle are in seperate posts.

Tied for 35th with csK.  Wait, maybe now I'm not?

I almost feel intimidated on this forum just because I'm amongst the more elite listeners of VGM.  Heck, even some people on this board have reviewed for Chudah's Corner (Zane, and Ashley, I'm looking in your direction).  So, when a little nobody like myself comes on board, I tend not to post as much so I don't offend the great gods and goddesses (Angela) of this forum.  That being said, it is nice to be a part of such a tight-knit family.  Kudos everyone!

Yeah, I like an honest and open discussion atmosphere too (if the gods and goddesses think so too, that is!).

Not to laugh but your comment placing me (and others) above you in terms of a listener make me chuckle because you really give me too much credit if anything. I've only been collecting since the tail end of '05 and there are mounds of things I'm still unknowledgeable about or have yet to hear. I hardly consider myself an elite listener because in many ways I'm still a newbie. I just don't think listening to VGM (or any hobby as it is) should be about holding one's experience over a newcomer's head although the idea of respect - which is what I think you’re referring to - is different and has to be earned.

Additionally, there is always going to be instances of friction on the boards... that just boils down to people being different.

Eh, relax...It's all just music and everyone's equally good at putting CD's in their player. Just speak your mind and carry a flame gun/shield combo (they help at times).

If you're somehow including me in that just because I make the top ten list, rest assured that I'm simply a big geek and nothing particularly special on top of it.  I doubt anybody here really thinks of themselves as "elite."  tongue

Quiet, peasant. tongue:P:P

Being serious, I can relate to Allyourbase. I look at certain threads where people make it known how much VGM they're buying, and it is a lot of stuff, encompassing a great many genres. My sense of intimidation doesn't come from the fact that everyone has *more* VGM than me, but more out of the fact that their level of experience they have with VGM is that much more.

It's like watching some kid whoop your ass at DDR. You're barely keeping up, but his feet are a damn blur.

Yeah, that applies to most message boards on the internet.  This is pretty much the only one I bother being a part of since most everybody is pretty awesome.

Or Guitar Hero solos. ;p

Yeah, I started the same way...I just knew stuff I had played back in '98 or so, so SNK/Falcom and some others were stuff I just picked up on over time and it was kind of an easy match. I was amazed Rockman albums were so few and far between back then, but happily, that's changed. And it took me awhile to find out FFIII was actually FFVI (I learned that from reading one of the reviews here).

On the same hand...I went from trying to have a "diverse" VGM collection to one that better suits my taste and just functions like a well-oiled machine. And not surprisingly, most of my favorites are the ones I probably would have liked prior to getting into "proper" VGM albums (although I was NOT a fan of hard rock prior to VGM...thanks, Guilty Gear!). But I'm also not shy about saying I know quite a lot about the hobby in general (although I don't border on the obsessive level as some people, which boggles my mind).
