One of Disney's greatest films is being re-released on a 2 disk set, and it's less than $20 smile  Among the greatest are:

Fantasia
Jungle Book
Little Mermaid
Aladdin
Snow White
Perter Pan
Alice in Wonderland

I think a few of those are OOP, but make sure and acquire The Little Mermaid!  Hopefully this will put a stop to all those bootleg Little Mermaid DVDs which have plagued ebay like gnats to wildebeest!

cheers,

Speaking of "gnats to wildebeest", not a Lion King fan?

Idolores Oct 3, 2006

I agree with Ryu. Lion King was one of their best, and I have to add Mulan to that list, as well.

The Lion King was never one of my favorite.  Mulan was fun, and The Emperor's New Groove was the strangest (I would compare it to Disney on acid), but they're not up to the classics in my book.  However it's OK for us all to have different books...  I will add this to my original list:

Dumbo

Ahh, The Little Mermaid.

It was one of my main objects of childhood obsession.  I picked up the 2-DVD set at Wal-Mart last night for 16.98 (some places may have it for 14.98; I know it's 14.99 at amazon.com)  I'm glad I waited instead of blowing $50 on the crappy DVD Disney released many years ago.

I also can't believe they're working on "The Little Mermaid III" ...but we'll see how that goes.

Eh, I imagine it'll turn out to be terrible, just like many of those Disney-direct-to-video cheapquels **sarcasm alert**.  Actually, not all of them are bad:  the Aladdin ones were pretty good, and the (first) The Lion King was serviceable.  They even did a decent second Goofy Movie, but the rest... who needs them anyway?

Anyway, I LOVE The Little Mermaid.  It's up there with my favorite Disney movies (yes, I like Disney movies AND Anime, believe it or not), but I'd definitely agree with the list of great soundtracks listed above.  Some others which deserve mention...

The Black Cauldron--A dark, unDisney-like score for an equally un-Disney like movie.  A damn good one.

Hunchback of Notre Dame--Arguably Menken's most underrated score for Disney, it's up there with Mermaid and Beast.

(If some of these are already mentioned, sorry, but I wanted to chime in.)

*gasp* You didn't like my all-time fave, Beauty and the Beast?!? *faints*

No, I DID like it.  There's no need to worry.  I had just assumed it was up there on the list above--until I looked again.

Aahhhh. You are forgiven. ^_~ Funny thing is, I liked it when it first came out, but it was only after we went to Disneyworld a couple years back that I *really* started falling in love with it. That, Mulan, and Little Mermaid are my top 3 Disney movies.

To those who mentioned it, can you tell me why you liked Mulan so much? I mean no offense, but I didn't really care for it.

I loved this, though, and there looks to be a healthy crop of extras to explore.

Ryu Oct 7, 2006

Beauty and the Beast bothers me.  It's a nice movie, but I just don't like it.

The only Disney animated feature films I really like are, in particular order:  Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Lion King.  Ok, I think that actually is in the order they were theatrically released.  In fact, those are the only three I own.

No one's mentioned The Great Mouse Detective on their faves lists?  Shame and a pox on all of you.

And where's the Lilo And Stitch love?

Never heard of it. I take the pox.

I tend to get convulsions regarding TV shows and movies that have their basis in Hawaii. Unfortunately, Lilo and Stitch is in that group.

Don't forget there's
Peter Pan III
Cinderella III
and Fox and the Hound II
coming out soon.

The best "sequel" would probably Fantasia 2000.

For some reason, I cried buckets in Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2.

Little Mermaid DVD, isn't this like the 5th time they released this?

But LM is my favorite movie.  The musical score is gorgeous.
cry-worthy especially at the Part of your world reprise near the end.
and used at Tokyo DisneySea attraction.
I liked the music in Lilo and Stitch.

Ryu Oct 9, 2006

This is only the second time Little Mermaid has been on DVD.
