Did anyone know that the Duck Tales movie was available exclusively on DVD through the Disney Movie Club?  I joined up today just to get it, although now I have to buy 4 more DVDs from them, so I was going to buy some of their cartoon box sets from them.  The only Disney cartoons that interest me that I know are or will be on DVD are:  Duck Tales (Vol 1 on there, Vol 2 coming out soon), Darkwing Duck (Vol 1 not at DMC for some reason), Gargoyles (Vol 1 on there, Vol 2 not, but not too interested anyway since they've yet to announce the next set), and if necessary maybe Gummi Bears (Vol 1 coming soon).

Anyone have any of these or seen them recently enough to state if they've stood the test of time well?  I recall a recent Gargoyles thread, but there not yet being a Vol 3 announced (Season 2.5) bothers the hell out of me.

If all else fails, I could pick up some Ghibli releases----I'll take suggestions on those too.

You can never go wrong with Beauty and the Beast.

^ Well, except when it's no longer for sale. Damn vault.

You didn't mention Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers or TaleSpin. I haven't seen either since I was a kid, and I didn't particularly care for TaleSpin, but they generally get a lot of acclaim in my circles whenever (or rather, if) Disney Afternoon pops up in conversation. Based solely on nostalgia I'd suggest considering Chip & Dale, if you're only considering TV-on-DVD.

By the way, I remember hearing about the Duck Tales movie exclusivity from a good site, TVshowsondvd.com. Here's what they had to say about it:

"[News source] notes (and we've heard it from other people posting online as well) that the Disney Movie Club exclusive DVD offerings are often inferior, quality-wise, in some way to the retail releases which tend to be announced in less than a year from the time of the Club exclusive offering. So it may be better to wait on this. If you can't wait, though, then you might consider doing a search on the club and joining up."

If I was really interested in the Duck Tales movie, I'd probably wait, as I hate the double dip and/or owning the lesser version. Good thing I waited and waited for Robin Hood...

Bah, oh well---too late.  I watched Rescue Rangers when I was younger, but am not sure I'd be too interested in it now.  Perhaps I should hit Youtube and see if anyone has random episodes up for me to watch.

I noticed that Disney has the Jim Henson Productions' Dinosaurs first two seasons on DVD.  I recall liking that show back in the day too.

A bit late on this, but in case you still want suggestions, I'd definitely go with Gargoyles Season 2: Vol. 1. Yes, it's a bit annoying not knowing if the second half will ever be released, but the first half is just too good to miss. "City of Stone" remains as one of my favorite story arcs from thie show, and "The Mirror" is considered to be the best stand-alone episode by many fans, including myself. I believe the set cuts off right after the first few Avalon/World Tour episodes, so you still sort of get a sense of completeness since season 2 basically breaks down to Avalon and non-Avalon.

As for the other things you mentioned, I did buy the first volumes of DuckTales and Chip & Dale. To be honest, I haven't watched either too much since I got them, not only because I haven't had the time to, but also because they didn't hold my interest as much as I would have liked. The TMS-animated episodes from both series do have gorgeous animation, and there are a couple of gems that I really enjoyed (particularly the Soda Cult episode from C&D), but again, some of the plots weren't interesting as I remembered. I've only gotten the first volumes of both, however, and perhaps the second volumes are better.

I haven't been able to get Tailspin or Darkwing Duck, but I think the latter is a must have. I watched a few clips on Youtube and Darkwing is still as great as I remember. I love a good superhero parody.

I also picked up the first volume of Dinosaurs a while back and enjoyed it. The video is a little strange, however, with a certain blurriness to it. I think it's because of the way they shot it, though, and not because of any transfer issues. Otherwise, the set is great, with plenty of features and dinosaur/easter eggs.

As for DuckTales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp itself, I've read that the Movie Club version is indeed widescreen, so I wouldn't worry much about the transfer. The rumor is that it will eventually get a wide release, since it was labeled a "Disney Movie Club Premiere" and not as an exclusive.

Yeah, I went with the Dinosaurs box set (seasons 1 and 2), which counted as two for the commitment.  I also bought Pocahontas, since my sister wants it, and some movie out of their non-Disney/'grown-up' movie listing.  So I'm out of the commitment but will hold off and see what their VIP thing is about.  They have a sale on some of the Ghibli films, not Pompoko from what I recall though, and I may get more from them.

Speaking of Youtube, I watched an episode of DuckTales on it and I think I may end up getting them, Darkwing Duck, and, if I can find an episode of it to watch to consider it more, the Gummi Bears box set.

As for Gargoyles it's a catch-22; either I get them and help support the cause for the next box set or I wait and contribute to the neglect that will keep the next set from being released.

Oh, and I have received the DuckTales movie (and the rest of the intro order) and have yet to watch it.
