So, who waited in line hours to get their hands on a PS3? In the long run it's probably worth it, since chances are those will sell for big bucks on ebay! However I did not wait... did you?
cheers,

They launched early?
I read about the camping in front of stores to make a preorder and the upcoming eBay frenzy and I just sit back and laugh.
It's Sony hardware... it's going to take at least a rev or two before they work out all the hardware bugs.
Um... on the other hand, Jeremy has threatened me with evil things if I don't come with him Friday morning to camp out in front of GameStop so we can preorder a fat-ass Wii bundle. I don't think there's going to be much of a shortage of those, though.
For anyone reading this not in-the-know, no, the PS3 hasn't launched yet... the big deal a few days ago was just about EBStop allowing preorders until they ran out (8 or 16 per store, from what I've heard)

My buddy works at an EB the next town over from here, and he pre-ordered one of the systems. They are getting 8, including the system he ordered. I also talked to the manager at the GameStop where I picked up the new MK (coughbuyitcough), and he said they were getting 9 or something. My buddy doesn't even genuinely want one, and he was thinking about just eBaying it and putting some of that money toward another PS3 later in the system's cycle. Very ironic! Although I usually don't agree with eBaying new stuff for big money, any Sony fanboy that's going to fork over more than launch price for a PS3 deserves to lose their money.
This is a pretty funny topic to me, because I was a HUGE Sony dude last year. Some stuff about the PSP rubbed me the wrong way, but once E3 hit I was pissed. I still play the hell out of my PS2, but I have some pretty strong negative feelings toward how Sony has handled/will handle things in the future.
The opportunistic bastards are already flooding ebay with pre-orders, whoever buys one of these for 2 grand is not even guaranteed to get one release day. I even saw somebody who's trying to sell the "play-station3.com" domain name for over 50K.
Sony sure has this down to an art... release very few systems initially so that there is a huge hype and demand for it, then later gradually release more (of course whether or not the system works was never really an issue)!

I feel so sorry for those poor schmucks who waited in line just to pre-order... I've never seen anything like that!
EDIT: If I wanted a PS3, I'd be ready to shoot myself right about now...
It disturbs me that people wait in lines (overnight) for pre-orders. The human race needs help.
I knew about it and if I get my hands on one pre-holiday season, it's going straight to ebay. That said, it's ironic I missed out on preordering one to go to my Business Ethics class.
*Shrug* Oh well, one less hassle to worry about. It's going to be mad when it launches and I don't want to get stuck with a pricy IOU past the holidays.
As for Sony...For the same class, I'm doing an ethics report on their lawsuit with Immersion while hinting at the motion-sensing ripoff for the PS3 controller. So while I have no problems with them getting me an 'A' this semester (my teacher loved the topic I chose), they annoy the hell out of me now. They're losing sight of what made their initial entry into the console market so effective (PS1-cheap, high-end, better off than the Saturn, able to establish a good library quickly. PS2-DVD player hit at the right time, DC was the only competitor at the time, a bargain even at $300). First it was the PSP 'Value' pack where they blatantly jacked up the price for the US release and the PS3 has been a public relations nightmare for them. It's overpriced, has nothing to launch with, Blu Ray is nowhere near replacing DVD (and won't be even in 5 years probably), is horribly overshadowed by their own system (PS2), is going to confuse every casual consumer out there with multiple versions, probably won't work right and the Wii has done everything right, save for delays.
Wish I could sit in on one of their PS3 board meetings...

i agree... if they waited in zigzags or squiggles it would be less likely to snarl up traffic...
