Best snack food ever. Give me some of those puppies, a huge Slim Jim and a jug of H2O and I am ready to ROCK.

Kirin Lemon Oct 21, 2006

I'm all about the barbecue-flavored Kettle Cooked Lays, m'self.  Simply heavenly.

And then, there was no more need for words.  Yet ANOTHER truth-bringer, you are.

Ryu Oct 21, 2006

I've really lost a complete interest in any chips.  However, salt and vinegar potato chips were never anything I'd eat.

SquareTex Oct 21, 2006

I don't always indulge in the S&Vs, but they're a treat when I do. And actually, they're quite the consolation prize when I can't find the dill pickle flavored ones...I didn't know there was such a flavor until I visited my friends in Canada once! big_smile

longhairmike Oct 21, 2006

no salt and vinegar for me,, ill take the dill pickle flavored ones...

Adam Corn Oct 21, 2006

Never was a fan... just the smell is enough to make me lose my appetite.  Cheddar and sour cream on the other hand...

We always called them "vinegar and salt" btw smile  Maybe a regional thing?

Idolores Oct 21, 2006 (edited Oct 21, 2006)

I agree with Ryu. Salt and Vinegar raped my mouth. So bitter tasting.

As far as potato chips, go, nothing beats Miss Vickie's "original". Nothing!

Shinobin Oct 21, 2006

Anyone ever had the TGIF brand Cheddar and Bacon Potato Skin Chips?
Deeelicious!

Wanderer Oct 21, 2006

Salt and vinegar is utterly vile. So are most flavored potato chips. I'll take the original any day! wink

(Corn chips are even better...)

Zane Oct 21, 2006

It's strange, because I used to reaaaaally loathe the salt and vingear chips. I thought they were the grossest chips ever. But, I tried them out again a few weekends ago and I got HOOKED. Like, real quick. I have no idea what changed, but I guess my taste buds just weren't ready for the bitter assault until recently.

I ate an entire bag of them the other day at work. I'm talking one of those $3 normal sized bags. My mouth was a little puckered after that, but it was totally worth it. I haven't tried too many other flavors of chips besides the usual (sour cream and onion, bbq, etc), but I'll try to rock some dill pickle chips this week since some of you guys said they ruled.

Ryu Oct 21, 2006

I'm sorry to take this off topic, but when I was really young I recall opening up a bag of sour cream & onion potato chips, which used to be my favorite potato chips, and the chips came up all the way to the top of the bag.  Nowadays the bag is mostly air---anyone else notice this and have an explanation?

Wanderer Oct 21, 2006

Dill pickle chips don't sound bad, actually... Then again, I have the habit of buying a jar of dill pickles and consuming them within an hour. wink

jmj20320514 Oct 21, 2006

It's all about Sun Chips, yo.

oddigy Oct 22, 2006

One think I've observed regarding Salt & Vinegar potato chips is that people usually adore them or hate them.  There's rarely any opinion in between.

Those dill chips are something else, though.

I can't remember the last time we bought a bag of potato chips for home... they're usually a special treat when we go to Schlotsky's or Subway and get a combo or something. :)

"Product is sold by weight, not by volume" ;D

Maybe their marketing research came up with something like "if we fill these bags full of air, chips are less likely to break!"

I dunno, it has seemed for a while like bags are getting lighter, but the price is staying the same.  Sneaky snack companies.  I've noticed this with granola bars for years.  I could've sworn that those things were much bigger about 10 years ago.

XLord007 Oct 22, 2006

It's all about the crab chips (Utz with Old Bay).  Yessir.

Salt and Vinegar Chips is the Chrono Trigger: The Brink of Time.

I love them!

XISMZERO Oct 22, 2006 (edited Oct 22, 2006)

Probably some of the most bizarre flavored chips out there and I've never felt comfortable eating them despite their different taste. I equate Salt and Vinegar chips to a saxophone being played staccato and grossly out of tune (and to amend to JasonMalice's post, try "Warlock Battle").

Personally, I'll always submit to more crunchy chips like Reduced Fat Pringles, Reduced Fat Cape Cod Kettle Cooked, or Unsalted regular chips even those Terra Vegetable chips. Baked Lays are occassionally good too. All of the above not only make me feel a little better about indulging on chips but I believe reduced fat and/or no salt equals better taste/less grease. It's all mental I suppose...

American Nightmare Oct 22, 2006 (edited Oct 22, 2006)

My favorite chips EVER are the Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips made by Tim's Cascade Snacks.  Favorite flavor? Sweet & Spicy Luau BBQ!  Never could get into the Salt and Vinegar chips...too salty and vinegary for my taste buds.

Ha! Clever.

HAH!

YUM!

I too like ye olde S n' V, but I don't buy chips a lot. But this thread has prompted me to grab a bag next time. smile

GoldfishX Oct 23, 2006

I'd say more like Shadow Hearts 2's Icaro Again...Completely twisted, but the end result tastes great. Brink of Time was definitely twisted, but it didn't taste so good, so I have problems making that analogy in my head...Plus potato chips don't go so well with eggs.

Only time I do Salt and Vinegar chips nowadays is with Subway or grill food. Best thing is to mix them with regular chips and then watch the look on someone's face when they're not expecting it...My dad is almost too easy to get with that. Tabasco Cheez-Its or Tostitos have been my usual source of stand-alone (read: football) junk food. I think I saw the dill chips a couple times at my food store, but they're not always there...I wonder if there's a reason...

Crash Oct 23, 2006

I like 'em.  Not as much as I like those dill and sour cream chips that I see at Whole Foods, though:

Too bad I can't have more than a few without feeling...unbalanced (not really sick, but not feeling all that great, either).

Why else? They save money on product, while making money off of people who will keep buying product regardless.

Kenology Oct 23, 2006

Salt and vinegar chips are really good.  I never buy them, but when I do come across a bag, I do enjoy them.

I love some Herr's Red Hot Chips though (I'm a sucka for anything hot and spicy).  I remember a couple of years back when they took the ripples out of those things and was ready to send them a nasty letter.  But a lot of people must have beaten me to it, because after a month, the ripples were back.  smile

SonicPanda Oct 25, 2006

Yellow Corn Tortillas for me, or barring that, Fritos. As far as plain-vanilla potato chips go, there's Ruffles, and everything else.

Jay Oct 25, 2006

Vanilla flavoured?

Datschge Oct 25, 2006

The world of US flavours put into anything you can stick into your mouth...

I'm thinking that he means that as "plain old ordinary".  I don't know of any vanilla-flavored potato chips... that sounds disgusting.

Angela Oct 25, 2006

What movie or comic did I see represent vanilla-flavored gum as being a sort of "death pill" in espionage missions?  I think it was Foxtrot.

For the record, though, I think Dentyne's Ice Vanilla Chill is off the hook.

Schala Oct 25, 2006

Mmm....potato chips. I've lately been addicted to the sweet-and-spicy BBQ Maui potato chips that have shown up in our office vending machine as of late.
