So, anyone catch it yet?  I'm planning on seeing it, just so that I have an excuse to watch the film again on the big screen, but how did the 3D effects turn out?  Are they all that?

Likewise, has anyone picked up the new 2-disc soundtrack release?  How are the artist-performed pieces?

I want to badly but it's not playing in Tuscaloosa... I might see it in Birmingham tonight.

A 3D film showing in Tuscaloosa... that is a joke!  When I was in Tuscaloosa the movie theaters suuuucked.  Have they gotten any better?

Still slightly OT but I am skeptical of all this fuss over 3D movies again.  Saw Superman Returns not so long ago in 3D Imax and was not impressed.  Enjoyed it more without the 3D in fact.

Yeah, movie watching has gotten better - we have a 16 screen theater with stadium seating. (Cobb 16 back behind IHOP on Skyland Blvd.) Remember the old Bama 6 near Circuit City? It turned into a $1.50 theater and plays some older movies. Then it went up to $1.75. And last I heard it's $2 now. The Fox 12 in the old McFarland mall closed, though.

Anyway, I did not see Nighmare Before Xmas in Bham last night. Drag. If it's still playing around Thanksgiving then I will see it when I'm home in Montgomery. Tim -- if you're paying attention to this thread... interested?

I didn't even know such a thing existed, but Ultimate Disney has a review up:

Marilyn Manson is on it?! And yet, that's still less scary than the artists they rounded up for the re-release of the Little Mermaid soundtrack.

I don't plan to see it on the big screen, but I am hoping for a new 2-disc DVD release, as I missed out on the Special Edition that was available a few years ago. I just wonder if the DVD will retain the 3D effects.

You know, I totally missed out on this last year.... but I'm glad they brought it back.  I went to today's afternoon showing, and fessed up the slightly more expensive $13.25 price.  It was worth it.  This has been one of the few times I've ever gotten to experience digital cinema, and the quality is stunning.  I seriously hope this is where the future of movie theaters is headed - and I would actually pay up to see a lot of my favorites again in digital format.

The 3D effects add a wonderful edge to the viewing experience.  They're never get quite in your face as the new prelude opening is, where the jack-in-the-box pumpkin leaps out at you, but the newly rendered effects allows you to notice an insane amount of details you may not have noticed before, especially in the foreground of the picture.  The characters looks especially tangible, almost as if they blew up the actual puppets to billboard size, and you can actually touch them.

On top of which, just seeing the movie on the big screen again has made me discover things that I simply haven't noticed on my many repeat viewings at home.  I wonder how I never saw the tree's lights glowing on the door to Christmas Town?  Or that the merman creature that comes up out of the water fountain toward the end has a sleeping mask on his head?

The end credits also addded new pictures of the entire character cast in conceptual art form.  Very cool.

$13.25!?  The cheapest, seeing a digital movie in my local theater between 4-5pm, for me to see this movie is $4.25.  Otherwise, matinee is $5 and evening is $7.  What's sad is it costs slightly more to see it in the bigger city east of here with its non-digital projection that looks all crappy.

I want to see this, but I haven't seen it yet.

I finally did see this a couple of weeks ago for the low, low price of $11. wink

I'm very glad I did!

... Those bonus tracks on disc 2 frighten me... Is that the point, though?

Looks like they're bringing the movie back to theaters this year yet again.  I would love to see it one more time.

Talking of which, has anyone checked out the new 2-Disc Collector's Edition or Blu-ray release of the film yet?  The Special Edition from eight years back has certainly shown its age, video quality wise.  I'm contemplating the double-dip.

Also, has anyone heard the second cover album they released, Nightmare Revisited?  I've grown pretty fond of Manson's rendition of This Is Halloween.  The "I am the clown with the tearaway face" line is particularly awesome.

^^ I actually just heard Korn's rendition of "Kidnap Santy Claus" on the radio (damn you X107.5!!)  the other day and was pleasantly surprised on how well they did with the song.  Kinda interesting to read "Disney" and "Marylin Manson" in the same sentence wink
