Soundtrack Central The best classic game music and more

Thanks to an ambitious video game music community in a nod to Jodo Kast, Chudah, RPG Fan (to name a few), we've got an enormous library of album scans and covers.

What do you believe is the most bizarre, classic, or memorable (original or arranged) album covers you've ever seen? What comes to mind when I discribe "bizarre"? There are plenty of albums out there that had an artistic element (which may or may not reflect on the composer's artistic directions) to them which deviated much from their original video game counterparts. Do you think the covers convey any kind of symbolic expression?

Here's one stark example of a memorable one over the years. Chrono Trigger The Brink of Time A plate of breakfast food on a table (which reminds me of Crono's awakening at his home before he embarks to the Millennial Fair).

I'll probably say Zuntata has released some of the more eccentric looking cover arts to their works but what do you people think?

Hands down: Mozart The Remix, the soundtrack to some Bemani game.  Tiny picture: http://www.jbook.co.jp/p/p.aspx/1582932/s

It is of course historical fact that Mozart consorted with green-skinned vampire whores from outer space, so I guess this cover really isn't all that weird.

If *back covers* count, I submit the back cover to Bible Master 2 as quite the spectacle. It's pretty much Tenpei Sato in all his...umm...glory...

Haha, gotta love that 80's look big_smile

The only one I can think of myself is the Tobal No.1 Electric Indian front cover. Another Guido arranged album, interestingly enough.

I'd say not that much actualy, it's most of the time pretty adequate to the content.
But i guess it's the variety of packaging they used which may give that feeling. smile

Come on... somebody post the pic of the band members from JDK Band 1!

All the members of JDK Band are super badass and masculine, well except for the keyboardist, but he's still coo.

I second this one. I bought the album pretty much solely for its cover.

Five posts, and no mention of the Cho-Aniki series?

(Different albums; the first one is the one that always sticks in my mind when I think of strange video game art, while the second one just takes that to another level).  I understand that the art is just an offshoot of the game, but it certainly is memorable.

I got Cho-Aniki Show II OST and I had to flip the cover inside out in case anyone ever picked it up.  lol

Wow, those are some winners alright.

Especially the Cho Aniki covers.  smile

Though not quite bizarre, the cover for Secret of Mana + alwayas made me go "huh?"

And I'm kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Biohazard 2 Complete Tracks.  That one is probably the most bizarre one I have that I can think of right now.  hmm

Well, I think the Biohazard cover makes perfect sense.  First, you have some clearly biological features, which seem a bit unusual, which is where the "bioharzard" part comes in.  As for the ear, well this is a CD and hence you are listening to the biohazard smile  capisci?

Yeah, SOM+ *is* bizzare. I don't undertand it, never have. Looks like a girl praying, with a sheet on her head...then some really bulky dude with funky medieval hair, and a diaper on. Seriously!

Doesn't look like prayer to me. Where's her other hand?

Vaeran Nov 11, 2006

Thanks for ruining SOM+ for me forever. :/

Sorry to dissapoint, but her other hand is clearly holding his arm.  Although I do agree it doesn't look like prayer to me either.

cheers,

Sorry, I didn't mean to ruin it...just fold the liner the inside-out so that the blue background with 'secret of mana' shows up on the front instead. smile

What? Other people do that too? I thought I was the only weirdo getting bothered by bad covers and turning them inside out, haha. Yeah, vgm covers are extremely hit and miss with me, some of the best covers I have seen for cd's and some of the worst; in general I dislike gamey cartoony covers, I'd rather not have some geeky rpg characters on my cd cover (Musashiden 2, SaGa Frontier 2 puh) and man I can't stand the Silent Hill covers. Now Seiken Densetsu 2 and 3 are the way to go. And you gotta dig Shin Contra's badass covergirl, love the colorscheme here too, an absolute favorite of mine. ^_^

XISMZERO Nov 11, 2006

I see something completely different in that Secret of Mana+. Perhaps her secret is that old man getting her off on that cover. I'll accept my walking papers now...

I've had it on my desk for the better part of the last couple weeks and it just dawned on me she's listening to a CD with (big)headphones on. Anyone else catch that or am I just slow...Or imagining things? Could be either one.

Oh yeah, and then there's, uh her:
