Well, to those who don't have to prepare for working Black Friday retail, at least.

What sort of plans do people here have? For my part, we splurged the other day on those Burger King games, and while I still have my friend's XBox on hand (which he curiously seems uninterested in), by gum, we're gonna USE it. The Sneak King crown will be mine...this I swear.

I'm driving out to my home town to be with family... and then we're all going to the ocean for the weekend. It's not going to be boring, at any rate. wink

This year the Japanese holiday Labor Thanksgiving Day actually was on the same day as American thanksgiving, so I cooked a Thanksgiving meal at my place for a bunch of my friends over here.  No turkey, so I just baked chicken in the oven and we had a bunch of other food that doesn't usually show up in Japan so frequently, like stuffing, mashed potatos, corn casserole, etc..  Finished it off with apple pie.  Lots of work, but I got help, and it turned out quite well!  big_smile

Unfortunately I have to go back in to work tomorrow.  :\

Remember kids, no politics, and take it easy on the wine (or not)! Whenever your crazy uncle says something ridiculous, just laugh and stuff more food in your mouth!

Me too. Why can't people just take a couple days off? Oh, that's right, THEY are. ;(

I love T-Day.  It's the one holiday that guarantees that I get a four-day weekend.  Even on Christmas I may have to go in late for a four or five hour shift.

I took the cousins to see Happy Feet, and then we popped in Click on DVD when we got back.  Both films surprised me at how dramatically-charged and full of underlying messages they were.

We're heading off to my parents' place in about an hour.  Their stove is on the fritz, so a homemade turkey is a no-go.  Instead, they're going with a catering service that's going to do the turkey for us -- something we've never done before.  We're still going to help out with making the side dishes; right now I've got a Quiche Lorraine and Alsacienne in my own oven, which will serve as one of the appetizers.

The cousins brought their copy of Highschool Musical with them, so we'll likely end up watching that.  Just in case, though, I'm also bringing over Wallace And Gromit: Curse of The Were-Rabbit and Cars.  What I really wanted to watch, though -- and this is something I've been meaning to see for the past week -- is Martin Brest's Midnight Run.  I managed to grab another DVD release of one of my most favorite films of all-time, which has some new bonus features and a cleaner transfer.  Regardless, it wouldn't be the most appropriate film to watch during family time, so I guess DeNiro's going to have to wait for another night.

I just got back from a Thanksiving meal with around 22 people.  I had a good time, but I wish I didn't have to miss Amazon's $100 360 deal.  Anybody snag that?  Back to the holiday: I think there were around six to eight different kinds of stuffings and at least five types of desserts.  Not to mention the booze.  Oh, the booze.  You know, people always say don't drink and drive, but I think drinking and having a cell phone is just as bad.  Anywho, my buzz should be wearing off soon, and then it'll be back to Zelda.  Ah, sweet Zelda.

I set my alarm and got up at 4am to try getting that and not even Amazon's front page would load for me.  I wonder if *anyone* got the deal.

Crash Nov 23, 2006

Yeah, I kept refreshing the Amazon page as it neared the 1:00 CST deadline.  Everything refreshed OK until 12:56.  The next time the page loaded properly, it was 1:08, and the deal was gone.

What else do I do on the major holidays? Work, while everyone else gets together. it's a good thing I like my coworkers, so it's not so bad to be surrounded by them on a holiday. Plus, the atmosphere of a nearly-empty newsroom is always great fun. ^_~

Whoa, really?!?! How did you guys hear about that? I didn't get any email or anything....

Heh... it's basically pointless to even try and get something like a $100 360.  Amazon had 1000 units, and probably hundreds of thousands if not millions of people knew about it.  Forget it, it's a wasted effort.  Sleep is more important smile  Anyway...

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving feast (and I even got to take some leftovers home!) and I hope everyone is thankful for being alive and healthy!

cheers,

A bunch of programmed bots probably got the 360's

TerraEpon Nov 24, 2006

Heh, well whatever it is next week shouldn't be nearly as popular.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Yeah it was a standard 5 day workweek for us in retail, no days off here unfortunately.

Brandon Nov 24, 2006

Carl:
Really? All the stores around here were closed. I had to get dinner at a gas station.

Carl Nov 25, 2006

Guess your city respects Holidays enough to actually let people HAVE a holiday.
Congrats!
