Seems like all I've been doing is posting news, heh. But I found this extremely absurd and had to share it.

Novelty or not, Nintendo just outsold them 2:1.  Didn't they dismiss the DS as a gimmick that the PSP would wreck?  I was a huge Sony fan, but the DS and the Wii have won me back into the Nintendo fold.  Until the PS3 gets a huge price cut and some killer apps, I'm not touching it.

I am not looking forward to the next round of next-gen console launches and can't wait for this one to die down. The excitement of new platforms is completely eclipsed by bickering about who's better and who's worse, who's winning and who's losing, from all sides. Perhaps the same could be said of all launches, but it seems particularly ferocious this go-round. I know I'm not the only one who really doesn't care who's "winning" or "losing" and just picks up and enjoys the new games that appeal to him, but it sucks to feel like we're the minority these days.

POPOBOT, perhaps, but Sony has typically been concerned with how many systems sell, even if some system sales are going to replacement because Sony makes shitty systems, in terms of quality.  It helps with the bandwagon fallacy that helped make videogaming and Sony "cool".  So far, they've gotten lucky---Sega couldn't do much with the Saturn and the N64's use of cartridge was just retarded.  The Dreamcast failed because Sony used a similar tactic they are trying now against the Wii---people bought into fallacious reasoning that the PS2 was going to be better graphically (which took awhile to actually prove that point), and at least it was a cheap DVD player (for its time) while the Xbox did well enough in the US but a lack of Japanese developers was rather damning.  This go-round, it seems 360 fixes all the faults I had with the Xbox (even without the Japanese support) and the Wii's innovation, building off the DS, is actually working.  Sony's hoping their bravado can overshadowing the absurd rarity of the overpriced PS3 with its lackluster roster of available titles and its ironic dependence on blu-ray technology (the reason it's rare and costly) that shares something with its competitor, hd-dvd---the vast majority don't really care.

Losing Dragon Quest to the DS probably hurt some too.

Nearly every U.S. media overlooks the profitability of Nintendo, where they are pretty much #1.  They only make games and license their characters, yet they make profit with all their products.  Microsoft and Sony's game divisions aren't as profitable, and often have to be shored up by their other profitable divisions.  People are so focused on market share rather than profitability.
