I really wanted to purchase World of Warcraft Burning Crusade because of the cool artbook and soundtrack, however it's completely sold out!  Now why is it sold out?  Because people are excited and want to play the game??  Hell no!  It's sold out because certain individuals nabbed as many copies as they possibly could, so that they could put them on ebay and amazon for oodles of money...

Basically, it's a repeat (to a lesser degree) of the Wii and PS3 craze.  It's sad, and annoying!

Grrrrr...

Uh... how is Burning Crusade sold out? It hasn't even been released yet!

I think preorders went up for about half an hour one day, and that was it. I just hope these ebay sellers are guaranteed their copies from their 'local store', because store orders themselves are by no means guaranteed.

Hell, I work in a game shop and I don't know if we'll be getting any. I'm not too concerned as I assume that somewhere along the line - as happened with the original game - the soundtrack and artbook will become available separately.

I hope so too! Still, you would think Blizzard would have made more copies available, especially since the original WoW Collector's sold out very quickly.  It's ridiculous for people to have to pay outrageous prices for something that hasn't even been released.  Honestly, if it wasn't for ebay, I think many such items would be much easier to find.  However, I actually don't blame ebay in this case.  Some people are just being pigs.

How many did Blizzard produce and who was doing the preordering?

I don't know how many Blizzard produced.  I didn't even hear about this until it was way too late to find any.  Very annoying... Overall though, I am glad that games these days (mostly PC) have limited Collector's releases with lots of goodies (the newest one I can think of is Vanguard Saga by SOE) however they're also very expensive ($99 if you get them at retail, otherwise it could be hundreds of dollars on ebay)!

Happy Holidays, don't break the bank you'll need it if you plan on getting the Limited Burning Crusade!

I preordered mine (WoW Burning Crusade Collector's Edition) at amazon.com (and like a dumbass, ordered super saver shipping, so I'll be jumping through the Dark Portal about a week after my friends in my guild will be. >_< oh well, being cheap has its price ;D) and it still seems to be planning on shipping, thankfully.

The thing about that particular game is that preorders for the Collector's Edition were announced initially ONLY through the WoW splash page, and then trickled down to the website later that day.

Preorders _everywhere_ (Amazon, EBStop, I forget the others) were sold out within 48 hours.  It's going to be extremely difficult to find simply because Blizzard isn't cranking out that many, it seems.

The original release of WoW had a Collector's Edition too.  People who got it got a little card with a code on it to let them have a little mini-Diablo in-game pet.  I've only seen one of those on my server, ever... of course there are a ton of servers, but still. :)

Anyway, death to scalpers.  I really hope Amazon pulls through. :\
