I want one for the Blu-Ray aspect and Resistance looked really fun.  I'm curious who all has one, what games, and what's their overall feedback.  Thanks!

Not yet, and MGS4 is still a ways off.  I suppose the PS3 game that interests me most at the moment is Assassin's Creed..... and even so, that's coming out for the 360 as well.  Has a release date been announced yet?

Amazingu Jan 12, 2007

Not yet either. I've checked the release schedule for the upcoming months here in Japan, and it's nothing but lame title after crappy game. It'll be a long while before I get one, especially since anything that even remotely interests me is also (becoming) available on 360, which I AM going to buy soon, because it's got a much much much better line-up.

I never thought I'd see the day that an XBox would look more attractive than a Playstation, but here it is.

Yeah, the 360 has impressed me since I got it back in June.  You can catch me bitching about the Xbox Live Arcade, because it's releases (or really the lack thereof) irritates me.

Angela, in May, just in time for At World's End, you might want a PS3 or a blu-ray player in general, assuming you have a nice hdtv, because PotC 1 and 2 are getting released on blu-ray.

Oh, and Assassin's Creed still lacks a solid release date, but I believe it was given the approximate release of March.  I'm thinking that'll probably not stick though.  I'm hoping.

I got one 3 weeks ago and picked up Resistance Fall of Man and Genji along the way. I like both games but Genji is more my style (not too fond of FPS but Resistance is still good). I wanted it mainly because Square Enix is supporting it and it's probably going to be the console with the most rpgs in the long run. Now all I need is a 1080p HD tv...

A few months ago, it was officially delayed from Q1 07 to an unspecified time later this year.  My bet is late Q3 07 or early Q4 07.

Mmm, tempting.  Not since getting my Acquos have I started noticing transfer imperfections with certain DVDs.  Pirates 1 certainly has its share of them, so I definitely wouldn't mind having one of my favorite films getting better treatment.

I'd still feel sort of iffy using a game system for watching movies, though; to that end, I'll likely get a proprietary player.  Still on the fence between HD-DVD and Blu-ray, though.  (Pirates is currently only announced for Blu-ray, correct?)

Yes, Pirates 1 and 2 are set for May last I heard for blu-ray only; Disney for some reason has chosen that side.  I'm not sure why.

I don't see much reason to use the PS3 for a gaming device, outside of playing PS1/PS2 games (especially God of War II and Burnout Dominator in March), so it stands as just a Blu-Ray player for me, although that's all I wanted anyway and it is the cheapest player with the additional gaming feature.  Although Gran Turismo HD (currently free) is pretty, it is also rather blah; I prefer my racers to be, well, like Burnout or Mario Kart.  Gripshift is fun, but I don't know if I'm ready to spend $10 on it with all the games I currently have to play; the same for Blast Force.  The only currently available PS3 game that is worth getting or even renting is Resistance:  The Fall of Man.  Other than that, the PS3 upcoming releases are nothing for which to be excited and the PS Store is extremely lame---all those great PS1 classics to download can only be used on the PSP, which I utterly refuse to buy.

If a game is multi-platform, I currently intend to get the 360 version and, if a hd movie is multi-platform, I currently intend to get the HD-DVD version.

My guess is early-adopter harvest. Disney's put pretty much all they have on standard DVD, so now it's time to try to make you buy it again. Blu-Ray is currently trailing HD-DVD by a good margin, so if Disney is exclusive to Blu-Ray, and Blu-Ray goes the way of the Betamax, then everyone who shelled out for Disney Blu-Ray will have to shell out again for Disney HD-DVD. This is ignoring the Total HD format Warner just put up, though.
