Looking slick, Adam!

Homan Jan 19, 2006

Cool cool! smile

Totto Jan 19, 2006

Very good.

GoldfishX Jan 19, 2006

Yay, I can edit posts on STC!

Looks great...Simple, but effective.

I would propose one thing: To have a seperate Polls forum. It's one of the really unique things these forums have had over the years. Plus, it'll keep the monthly "What are your <insert month here> purchases" threads from getting bounced around.

Timt99 Jan 19, 2006

I almost put my usual username when I register to forums, but for good 'ol STC, I'll stick with the exclusive Timt99. smile And nice change, it should work out great!

Whoops, should have checked THIS forum first, hehe...As others were saying, old habits die hard: I visit the Open forum first and the Game forum last. ^_~

Anyway, I'm having some quirks with the forum. I can't see posters' names on the left side. I can see the bottom of avatar pics, but absolutely no names -- not even if I highlight all the text on the page. I'm using IE 5.1 on Mac OS 9.2.

Oh, another suggestion: Would it be possible to put a description of what each forum is at the top of each page? I know the descriptions are on the main forum index, but I usually use the right-side links to switch between forums and so I rarely ever see the main page.

Oh no, IE Mac hmm  I have read it has some pretty crap rendering of CSS and it's gonna be hard to troubleshoot with my Windows systems.   I will fiddle around with some settings to see if I can fix it.  Any chance you could do a quick screen capture and link to it from the forum or mail it to me?

Sorry but I really have to ask - why are you using IE on Mac??  What with Firefox and Safari both available.  Plus I thought I read Microsoft will be shortly ending support for the Mac version. But yeah I'll try to fix it smile

I really think the forum descriptions are going to stay where they are.  Everyone at some point is going to see the index page and if they jump the gun and post before doing so (*cough cough* wink) I can always just move the post.  Plus putting the descriptions at the top of each page would be taking excess space for something that only needs to be seen once or twice, not all the time.

BTW those of you who are really keen on a separate Polls forum like GoldfishX, be sure to chime in.

Well, there goes the ability to suggest Soundtrack Central as a friendly place for those who don't know much about VGM, yet would like to be able to ask certain questions about it.

On the plus side, user profiles means I can now stalk people!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get this. How can something like required registration make a place unfriendly to people who don't know much about VGM?

If someone really wants to ask some questions about VGM, required registration won't hold him asking them. Atleast now we won't have to suffer from "Uematsu"-user and other users who just want to mess other people's day.

To Adam, thanks for the new forums. This looks good, and it's not so big leap from the older forum. More like version 2.0.

Amazing... I escape from football-obsessed Alabama all the way to Tokyo, Japan, only to see the Auburn-Alabama rivalry played out on my soundtrack web site.

Excellent forums, you should have done this 5 years ago!

raynebc Jan 20, 2006

The forum's very nice.  The only thing that I'd add so far is a "new posts" function.

The "new posts" function is listed on the very bottom left of the main index page.

Yeah that's the feature I use to quickly find each day's updates, without manually hunting around.

Okee, will do so. I'll just email it to you, and if anyone else is really curious to see it also, they can respond or PM me...wait, *is* there an option for PMs? Hehe, I'm so used to boards like this having a PM option. ^_~

Firefox isn't available for OS 9.x, and Opera runs reeeeeeeeallllly slowwwwwwlly on OS9. I will give Opera another shot, though. As for Microsoft, I believe they said they'd be re-starting IE for the Mac, but I can't be sure anymore. Actually, the only time I use 9.x  and IE is at work (and I do visit the forums quite a lot while at work ^_~ ). Otherwise, I'm using Firefox. (And the forums look just dandy on FF. ^_^ )

But thanks for looking into it. ^_^

I would like a Polls forum as well. ^_^

SquareTex Jan 20, 2006 (edited Jan 20, 2006)

Actually, now is a pretty good time to ask this.

As many have noted already, myself included, the new forum requirements will certainly discourage troublemakers. I can't say that it can prevent them entirely, but it's a great start.

But considering what must happen when trouble does arise:

Is there an administrative policy regarding suspensions and bannings?
Will there be functionality added for moderators to delete posts, and for even users to remove their own?
Will you be the sole moderator/administrator, or will you require assistance in this?

Granted, I don't want to turn STC to get bogged down in bureaucracy, but perhaps a little bit is needed.

Just curious, thanks!

Ahh?! What do we have here? An Alabama fan?
Haha, actually I saw your icon a few days ago, Charlie, so I decided to add some exciting rivalry on here by placing the GREATEST team, Auburn Tigers, as my avatar. =P But, you and Adam are bama fans, that's not right. I'm losing 1-2. =/

LOL, With Adam on my side, I can't lose, Tim. tongue  I think it should be more like 10-1! If you posted on the RPGN boards, you'd see me talk about it more, heh.

Adam: I remember you being from Alabama (Greenville area?), but I had forgotten until you mentioned it again. Roll Tide indeed!

I'm a huge Opera fan myself. I just looked it up, and sadly, Opera 6.03 is the latest available for OS 9. It wouldn't surprise me if it ran slowly. Sooo, I guess your workplace just needs to jump into the 21st century. wink

You said you use FF at home, but what OS? I'm obligated to say give the newest version of Opera a try there. big_smile

Edit: Oops, sorry for the double post. Won't happen again.

Yes, a separate poll forum would be a good idea.

Adam, is it possible to make this function appear on every page?  It would nice to jump from the end of any thread back to the new posts list, with a choice of seeing new posts for the current forum or the entire site.  Thanks.

I absolutely love the "New Posts" link for each main section. I guess if it can be used elsewhere, it would probably be a good idea.

Another thought I had - this thread is currently in the Game Music section. It may be pertinent to create a new section just for announcements. Or announcements/technical area type thing. Anyone?

I'll be handling things for the time being.  Moderators are an option if it comes down to it.

Yeah I was debating trying to add that tweak.  Would adding a link to the drop-down link list at the bottom of each page suffice?

BAMAToNE wrote:

Doable.  Might test it out to see whether everybody's keen on a Polls forum.

A direct link would be ideal, but that would certainly suffice if the direct link is too difficult to implement.

BAMAToNE Jan 22, 2006

Did I miss something? I don't see the "mark all posts as read" link on the front page anymore...

I don't either, and posts don't seem to mark themselves as read even when they have been read, nor do they after clicking Refresh/Reload...

Maybe I was a little hasty in getting rid of that ^_^;  Does anybody actually need that link?

I think the way the new post markers work is when you log off - either manually or automatically after being inactive on the forums for a certain amount of time - they're then cleared away.  I don't think actually viewing the post has any effect.  A bit unintuitive I suppose.

Is it possible to have all URLs in posts targeted to a new browser window?  Currently, clicking URLs in posts opens the new page in the same window, and I have to ALT + <-  to get to the forums again.

Yeah, I know it's a minor thing and I can just right-click and open the new window myself.  But still...

Abrahm wrote:

Please don't do that. I want to decide myself if I want to load the site in the current window, a new tab or a new window. If the URL tragets a new window I can't load it in the current window/tab anymore.

I think I'm with Datschge - I'd rather decide myself if I want to open a new window and either hold control + click or right-click and open in new tab.

But I *definitely* would like the "mark all posts read" link! smile

Agreed. Though I *would* like a link to the index directly from the homepage, rather than going to one first.

Adam Corn Jan 22, 2006

Yeah, no opening links in seperate windows I think.  Really hate it when web pages do that, especially when I'm using tabbed browsing in Firefox.

Joshua, I will fix it soon so that clicking on the black "Forums" header in the sidebar goes to the forums index.
