Yes, totally. A few hours ago my wife gave birth to a baby girl. A human child. Mindblowing experience, as many people told me it would be. Strange how primal the whole thing is - the level at which we're bound by our insticts really reveals itself with childbirth. But wow.

brandonk Jan 24, 2007

Congrats...Man!!

Angela Jan 24, 2007

Congrats, papa!  Where's the cigars?  :)

Could Jay be the first Soundtrack Central father ever?  Or are any of you fellas parents as well?

Wonder who the first STC mom will be.....  *glances at Amber, Schala, Chudah, Eclisis, Crystal..... myself*

Harry Jan 24, 2007

Congratulations. All the best. smile

Ryu Jan 24, 2007

Congrats!  I had no idea she was expecting.  Or that you had a wife.

Weren't ya invited to the wedding?

avatar! Jan 24, 2007

Congrats! Have you named the baby yet? I think most parents name their daughter/son even before he or she is born smile

best wishes,

-avatar!

Shinobin Jan 24, 2007

Congrats!

Wanderer Jan 24, 2007

Congratulations!

I was wondering just recently whether there are any regulars on the forum who are parents.

Got at least one now for sure!  Congrats to you Jay!  (On fatherhood in general, not being the first at STC smile)

Crystal Jan 25, 2007

Congratulations!

Don't think i'll be the first mom here though.

Kenology Jan 25, 2007

Wow, Jay.  Congrats, man!

Jay Jan 25, 2007

Thanks all!

Avatar, yep, we've named her already - Daisy! I'm going for a middle name of Hal9000 but I'm not sure her mother is going to go for that. I think it would rock.

Surely I couldn't be the only one here who is a parent?

Crystal Jan 25, 2007

Shannyn Sossamon's kid is named Audio Science Clayton.

Robin William's kid is named Zelda after the Legend of Zelda series.

Too bad, I think Hal9000 would be cool too. It's certainly unique.

Crash Jan 25, 2007

I've toyed with the idea of naming my first-born son "Adol".  And I guarantee I am not the only person on these boards who has.

Shinobin Jan 25, 2007

"Chrono"

Carl Jan 25, 2007

Congrats Jay!

Hope you survive the lack of sleep that comes with the first year or so  smile

Hi Daisy!

Zane Jan 25, 2007

That's intense, Daddy-O! If I was going to have a kid I'd put headphones on my wife's stomach so that my baby could listen to Yu Miyake in the womb. I heard that listening to music could have an effect on the child, so maybe the Miyake would cancel out my genes and the kid would be born brilliant.

Hang in there, man. It's going to be a long, sleepless year for you and your wife! Sleepless, but blessed. smile

Stephen Jan 25, 2007 (edited Jan 25, 2007)

Congratulations, Jay.  Many happy sleepless nights. :-)

Isn't Jay in Europe?

Is this some kind of prediction contest?  Becoming a mother is a serous decision to make.

XISMZERO Jan 25, 2007

No cigars. Cigars will kill!

Schala Jan 25, 2007

Congrats! *tosses confetti* May you have strength through the coming sleepless nights and all that. ^_~

On names: My god, people, at lest choose one of the more normal-sounding geekish names...none of which occur to me at the moment, but I know that I was rather enamored at one point of calling my daugher Celes. (No, I don't have kids, it was just speculation.)

And on kids: I'm not looking to have children, at least not at this time. Who knows, maybe that could change later in life. But I'm pretty sure one of the other STC women will beat me in that department. ^_~

Haha, congrats man :D
For those who want kids, the joy of that firstborn is something that is unparalleled.

Personally... I hate kids.  Can't stand 'em.  I can say with 100% certainty that I will be the very last person on these boards to pop out a kid.  Lump me in with the "never ever ever" crowd.  Honest reason?  I'm way too selfish.  A cat is all I can handle, folks. ;) My husband agrees, thankfully. (that would be one heck of a dealbreaker if we disagreed with something so fundamental.)

I'm not looking forward to having kids, but it is something I feel I should do at some point.  Since modern medicine keeps us alive far longer than nature intended, who will be morally obligated to care for us when we can no longer care for ourselves?  Unless you're super rich and can afford to hire health advocates and in-home nurses, kids are pretty much your only chance of making your sunset years slightly less miserable.

...not if you're such a terrible parent that your kids want nothing to do with you by the time you're that old. wink  We're not willing to put our lives on hold for ~20 years raising little humans for that sole purpose.

I'm banking on that "super rich" idea, I think.

Qui-Gon Joe Jan 27, 2007

Oh heck, I don't have to worry about all that... I'm not nearly healthy enough to last long enough to be old and decrepit, probably!

Oh, and congrats, Jay.  wink

Shoebonics Jan 27, 2007

Congratulation Jay!

Don't bank on that.  Lots of people who think that end up living a lot longer than they expect.

That's what religion is for.  As you raise them, you inculcate them with a moral code that forces such unbearable guilt on them that they have to take care of you in order to bear being around themselves.

SonicPanda Jan 29, 2007

Four days late and a dollar short, but congratulations and best of luck...I've found little girls can bend fathers to their will quite easily.

Crash Feb 16, 2007

No, that was more of a hypothetical first-born son.  I'm far too irresponsible to be a parent yet.  But if I ever become one, I'll be lobbying hard for "Adol" if it's a boy.

It's just too bad my vote won't count.

Zane Feb 16, 2007

Crash wrote:

That's... not very healthy, man. Why wouldn't your vote count?

Crash Feb 16, 2007

Well, I've tried floating some unusual names past my current girlfriend should we ever consider children (Adol, Ajax, Dava, Van)...and these suggestions are all met with prolonged icy stares.  The only name I have suggested that she didn't dismiss outright was Leif.  No, she has made it clear that if she has a son, he will be named Jack, and if she has a daughter, she will be named Elizabeth.  So, unless I find someone else, my dreams of having a little Adol Christin (or Christian, to sound more manly) are going to have to be suppressed.
