My my... people who don't live in America are going to be really annoyed with you that you're paying such low prices for gas. Currently in Northern Ibaraki, Japan, I'm paying 126 yen/litre at Mobil, which comes out to 477 yen/gallon. Europe and Australia are generally in a much bigger world of hurt than here, though.
As far as the car itself, I'm driving a 1992 Toyota Carina ED... decent fuel efficiency, but not the best. The car itself cost me 52000 yen, but I just paid shakken, which you have to pay every two years in Japan (150000 yen - older cars are more expensive) and every April is the government car tax which runs 40000 yen or so. Insurance is something around 10000 a month. Cheap to buy a car in Japan... not cheap to own one, generally.
