Apparently it's 32" and a FULL 1080p! Supposedly it's also designed for gamers in mind! This sounds nearly perfect, but I would like to get a full report on it first. So, does anyone have one? Are there any reviews on it somewhere on the net (except for that one useless review on amazon)? Thought I'd ask smile

cheers,

edit: About bloody time some company makes an HD TV that's less than 40"!!!!!!
edit2: I also noticed Sharp will soon release another 32" full HDTV! Very cool...

if you don't mind having it backordered, it's only $1,252.51 shipped from buy.com.

the sharp aquos series are very high quality because their contrast ratios are comparable to plasmas, but they're also very pricey. unless you're planning on playing the newest fastest computer games on it, you probably don't need 1080p...

i like buy.com as their prices are often lower than amazon's... they also have some not-so-big-name brands at ridiculously low prices.  i just picked up this 42" lcd tv for $905 shipped:
http://www.buy.com/prod/go-video-42-wid … 91827.html
its going in my living room to be hooked up to the 2nd puter, the ps2, and the reigion free dvd player. the 10ms response time isnt really fast, but for my gaming needs (mostly snes emulator and ps1/ps2) it isnt worth paying for the increased speed.

heres a 7% off buy.com coupon, max discount $25, that u can use if u decide to get your TV from there:

Hmm... do they make bigger ones that are as fast?  I'll be in the market for something like this when I get back from Japan in the fall.

CRT still has the best picture quality and you can get a 30" widescreen (HDTV) for less than $800. But it weighs around 110 lbs.

I can afford to buy one of those newfangled slim LCD/Plasma sets but I'm holding off simply because my CRT looks better. The current rumor is that Pioneer is making a plasma with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and more natural black levels than a CRT. SED and Laser are formats that might replace the LCD/Plasma technology, so there's more reason to hold off. Especially if Laser sells for $1000 or less. We really have to wait until 2008 to know for sure. I'm not saying that LCD/Plasma is not worth it - it's just that if you don't mind a big bulky thing, you can get a really good display for cheap.
I've gotten used to browsing the internet with an LCD display and I'm always amazed to use the CRT monitor at my friend's house. It looks so much better. I don't mind having a massive creature in my living room, but for my workspace I expect something small.

Let me say this:  I ordered the 37" version from Beach Audio on Friday.  In about a week, I should have it in my grubby little hands.  The very first thing I plan to do is hook up my Japanese PS2 and try out some IIDX to see if this "Vyper drive" really eliminates any gaming lag.  If it really does have no lag, as they claim, I will be one happy camper and sing praises to Sharp from the rooftops.  If it doesn't...my quest for a gaming HDTV will start anew.

For what it's worth, I went to Best Buy last weekend and brought along my PS2 and IIDX.  Of the nine TVs I tried, only one had no lag:  the Panasonic TH42PX600U plasma.  Most TVs had so much lag that IIDX was unplayable (every note was coming out as a Good).  If the Sharp doesn't work out, I might just have to order that Panasonic.

Edit:  Here's a thread on AVSforum discussing the model:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=785463

Pictures of it in action start at the bottom of page 5.  I still haven't seen anything but speculation regarding the lag, which I find very odd.

I have a Sony 40" Bravia XBR 1080p TV.  It's freakin awesome.

But it's too big for many of us!

I'm familiar with SED (though I kinda doubt it will ever be released), but what are Laser TVs?

i finally got my new system set up,, including a  JVC TH-C30 which is a relatively low priced ($230) complete 1000 watt 5.1 home theater system w/speakers.. the 5 disc dvd changer/reciever also plays mp3, mpg, avi, divx, asf, and wma files... and if you dont feel like burning a disc,, theres a USB port on the front to just pop in a flash drive and watch them off there...  for people like shana and i who have a lot of fansubbed anime, movies, and dramas,, this thing was exactly what we needed... it sure beats watching everything on a 17" computer screen

if any of you are thinking of getting a new system to hook up to your tv, i highly recommend the jvc home theater line.

I'm sure it's quite awesome, but it's FAR too big for me! I really want a 27", but 32" seems to be the smallest currently produced (at least for full HD). I can wait...

remember, if you get a 27" and youre watching something that was originally in a 4:3 ratio,, your actual picture is going to be much smaller. IF you absolutely insist on 1080p then youre going to have a hard time finding anything smaller than 32", but if you settle for 720p which is still going to be clear as hell on a 27-32" then youll be able to find something for about half the price... i don't think the difference between 720 and 1080 is even that noticeable until you get past 40" or so...

i usually end up buying most of my electronics from buy.com because my brother is worried about getting in trouble for using his best buy employee discount for me for monumental purchases (especially since they already know he bought himself a 60" sony 1080p dlp tv last year,, which looks awesome for zelda 2 by the way)...

Although I didn't initially read about Laser TVs through wikipedia, here it is:

Hmmm... should be interesting to see if anything ever comes of this.

Crash Mar 25, 2007

OK, my TV came in on Friday, and I hooked it up to my PS2 straight away for some IIDX.  No lag that I could see, but there was some choppiness as the notes descended.  Considering how much lag I was seeing when I was trying out sets at Best Buy, this was most welcome.  Picture looks gorgeous, both playing games and DVDs.  Standard-definition TV, not so much.

I was concerned that maybe the 37" would have been too big, but now that it's here, I'm glad I didn't go with the 32" set.
