Is there any music on other albums (soundtrack or not) that sounds like any of these tracks from Chrono Cross?
Disc 1/Track 1
Disc 1/Track 7
Disc 2/Track 1 (especially this one.. 30 seconds was not enough)

Thanks,
~Andy

I don't think so. Mitsuda uses a very unique style. The only thing close to that is stuff you'd possibly hear on other stuff he's done. Nothing quite as soothing, or relaxing, though.

This one time when I was playing the opening track of CC in my room, my mom came in and said it sounded like something out of Lord of the Dance. I was forced to kill her, as I'm sure you would all understand.

Incidentally, those are my 3 very favorite songs from the entire soundtrack, so if there IS more like this, I'd like to know too wink

disc 2 track 1 of Chrono Cross has always reminded me of the 'first flight' music from Fly Away Home (which started me into ultralights 10 years ago). for those of you who have seen the movie, its the scene near the beginning where jeff daniels [stunt double] is using the foot-launched glider. The music is by some guy named Mark Isham. It doesnt have an official ost release but years ago i forked over close to $70 to get one of the oscar consideration promo cds.

That was a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing. What is the rest of the OSt like in comparison to that track?

You definitely need to check out some Iona albums, especially "The Book of Kells".  Tons of amazing celtic/rock, and roughly half and half as far as intrumentals and vocals go (vocals are gorgeous as well) on most of their albums.  "Kells" is probably my favorite due to a healthy amount of sax.  Oh, and in case you needed any more incentive, they're actually an influence of Mitsuda, unsurprisingly.

"the Vth Vanguard" from Wild Arms V has almost the same intro as "Time's Scar (1-01)", with the winds are respectively syakuhachi and tin whistle. The rest is completely dissimilar though.

Today in Mitsuda's newsletter he mentions Loreena McKennitt's An Ancient Muse as his recommended CD of the issue.  So weird having one obscure artist I like recommending another obscure artist I like.  But you might try checking out some of her stuff (and she has a number of really good instrumental tracks if you're looking to avoid vocals).

Thanks for the links, longhairmike. Those tracks were pretty enjoyable! Especially the first. I'll have to keep an eye out for more of Mark Isham's works.

Yesterday, I was listening to Breath of Fire V's music. Most of the tracks aren't very Mitsuda-esque, so I wouldn't rush out to get a copy of the soundtrack if you're looking for that sort of thing (although, to be fair, it is some great music). I thought for sure that I was listening to a Mitsuda song at one point, though. Disc 1, Track 14: A Small Journey. I'm not sure what it was, but the style and melody both seemed quite reminiscent of Mitsuda when I listened to it yesterday. Hopefully this is the sort of thing you're looking for, lordskylark.
