I don't know what prompted me to look but it seems that Back Trip Records are back in business - http://www.backtrip.co.jp/ I used to buy from them a lot when I first started buying VGM. Their pink bags with the Engrish about 'being cool' was hilarious. Always good service.

Or have they never been out of business and I just lost them?

Wow. I ordered Star Ocean 2 - Fantasy Megamix from them a looooooong time ago. Thinking of them reminds me of another - The Place. I used to call them because I didn't have a credit card yet. I'll never forget....I emailed the-place.com with my want list and the manager said, "We looked at your list and decided to take it seriously." I never heard back about that list. It had Super Mario World, Zelda Sound & Drama, Super Metroid - Sound in Action, etc.

I remember hearing the names of both Backtrip and The Place back in the day, although I hadn't ordered from either at the time.

Looking through Backtrip's shop pages, I didn't find any vgm though, just a bunch of American albums...  Did you spot any game album section?

No, I can't find a thing on that site. I can't read the language and the layout seems pretty impenetrable. There may well be no VGM there.

Back in the day, if I remeber correctly, their site was very basic with no real way of browsing. It was complicated by the fact that, half the time, the english had spelling mistakes so searching often didn't bring anything up even if they had it. I used to email them asking if they had certain things and that seemed to work. No idea if they'll be back doing VGM again but they are a big part of my VGM history.

I never used BackTrip, but I used to use The Place a lot before I got my own credit card.  Once that happened, I dumped the place and switched to CDJ.

I remember getting the F-ZERO X Guitar Arrange from these guys, heh.  LONG time ago, one of the most bare bone credit card forms ever!
