I just saw this item on a Japanese news programme and decided to find some more info on it.
Apparently Stanford University is using PS3s to fight Alzheimer.

Beats using your PS2 for launching missiles, right? wink

Best thing I've heard about the PS3 so far!

I'm downloading that software right now.  It's a shame that the PS3 heats up this room so fast that I tend to really limit the time I keep this little oven turned on.

I hate how the PS3 has no background downloading... how could they look at how the 360 does downloading and be like, "man, who doesn't want to do nothing else while watching their system take way too long to download something!  Look at that progression bar!"

Dude wait, what?  1.6 firmware enables background downloading.  Folding@home won't download in the background because the software is stored on Stanford's servers and not the PSN Store.  It's only 50 MB so I don't know why you're complaining.

After plopping down $600 for the clunker and no decent games and you'll want the Alzheimers!

/sorry. Sony joke.
//could not resist.
///sorry if anyone knows someone with the disease...
////will I go to hell?

Because I can.  Why they just now added it is ridiculous.  The system updating is really slow and annoying, and I don't get as to why they have to ask about the damn EULA agreement too.  The Sony Store (the way it is set-up and how you buy stuff) needs fixing too.  Penny Arcade has it right with this comic strip in how it is buying from the Sony Store:  http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/03/02

Xbox 360 didn't receive background downloading till E3 2006.

I haven't had any trouble downloading the updates, guess you just need to get off dial up.  Installing takes less than a min.

Ryu Mar 23, 2007

It doesn't matter when 360 got it; they had it long before the PS3 launched.  And I don't have dial-up; I have a wireless DSL connection.  Installing is only a part of the update process.

I would hope so.

Yeah forgot about the reset, that takes a few hours.

Right, which was my point with my sarcastic quote.

Glad that's solved and you've come to your senses.  Well, almost... there is that horrid avatar.
