Do you have them by any chance? I am looking for an old one, from 94 or so (I think)  It was a december issue if I rememer correctly, featuring a preview of Zelda for Snes....I was awarded the 'code of the month', for a teenage mutant ninja turtles code for SNES I submitted. (UUDDLRLR BA, on the 2nd controller)...never got the game EGM promised as a reward for getting a code published...however, the code didn't work on American version of the game (I had the japanese import)...Anyway...If you do have it, I'd love to get a scan of it...it's a long shot I know...Just trying to document my .0000015'th of fame

cheers

Your code was published in the October '92 issue. Good thing as my collection stops at June of '93. I had to do a little digging but it was a fun trip down memory lane! There is a pic in the Dec. '91 issue of a PlayStation prototype!

Let me know your e-mail address and I'll send you the jpeg. It's a hefty file.

I bet they would make it up to you if you e-mailed them! OK, probably not but it's worth a shot...

I like this thread.  It has inspired me to look through the old gaming magazines I have left again. (I threw out many of them a number of years ago, unfortunately)

Let us know what EGM says when you mention your code.  They're sure to be surprised.  Hopefully they won't be total asses when they shoot you down, which they probably will.  What was the game promised for that month?

I don't recall exactly what games they were offering, but I think Thunder Force II (for genesis), and Hudson's Super Adventure Island were in the list.  I distinctly recall requesting a game that was not listed, and I got nothing..I should write them, anyone have the mailing address?

Anyway..for the interested, here is a scan of the code.  Dig it..haha

Incredible!

That scan I sent you is pretty fuzzy. I can send you a sharper copy if you want. EGM should hook you up with a copy of the new TMNT game for your system of choice! I think it would be poetic justice (assuming the game is good).

Yeah, the advertisements alone are reason enough to hang on to these mags. Hilarious stuff! Free instructions?!! WOW!!!

Here's their mailing address, although I think you'd get better results if you e-mailed them with the pic:

Asking for one of the new TMNT games is a great idea.  I think someone around here was saying that the GBA game was the best of them.

Can anyone tell me what issue had that "Nimbus" code for Mortal Kombat on Sega Genesis? I'm sure, given EGM's April Fools history, that it must've been one of their pranks that, of course as a wee lad, I bought at the time. Anyway, I want to see the mock-up again... anyone remember it?!

Nick G May 10, 2007 (edited May 11, 2007)

I'll look for that "Nimbus" code. I'm trying to remember when MK was released. It was called "Mortal Monday", wasn't it? I remember my parents taking my brother and I to the mall that night to pick it up! Ahhh, those were the days! I loved how buggy that game was. All sorts of comic mischief was to be had!

Nick G May 10, 2007

It must have been printed in a later issue than I have. The June '93 issue has the big preview for the console and portable versions of MK. I think the reason I threw out all issues after that was because of the horrible MK covers that soon followed. The number of pages per issue was practically cut in half, as well. It was a real low point for EGM.

On that subject on Mortal Kombat, somewhere along the lines of history, someone published a guidebook whose last page was dedicated to a bunch of rumor mock-up screens and rumors. A few of which included playable Reptile in MK for Genesis, playable Goro as well as some other silly fatalities. Anyone remember where it was from? I had so many MK guides and magazines growing up that have since seen disappeared seeing their fates rotting in some landfill.

Thanks for checking that out for me Nick G.

After doing some internetting myself, it's on Page 96 of the March 1994 issue (if anyone has that).
