For a long time now, I've hoped to make a massive want/have list of VGM. What's stopping me from just creating a text file, then? Basically, I would like to have something more dynamic and online-worthy than a static text file. For example, I would want to hide/move albums on/to/from the want/have lists with single clicks instead of coding and uploading an HTML page. I would also want viewers to be able to sort the list by rating, estimated value, want/have and alphabet. It also should be able to count the albums in each category automatically.

Is there anything like this out there, or should I try to get rich and hire a coder?

I'm not so much looking for a ready database, I don't think one exists, I know that I would be adding the actual content of the list myself, but I would like to have a decent backbone for it.

A few people said they would use it.  I just haven't had much time to dedicate to it.  The user system is complete but I insist on having a "ready" database to keep things less chaotic.  Lack of consistancy is a pet peeve of mine.  I could incorporate some of your ideas though.

Also, something that I have been debating was to include anime and film music to the database.  It isn't hard to make this system, it's just time consuming.

I am shooting for a late Feb. opening.

This is primarily a custom programming job.  It is also overkill for most people.
Most people could probably keep track of a list in a spreadsheet and then export to HTML.

I'm not very experienced with spreadsheets, but I think they would be another kind of overkill, with features that aren't really suited for a list like this. I don't think the porting to HTML could create an online dynamic document.

A spreadsheet is definitely more plausible.  Just enter the data, export to HTML, upload to host and you are done in a matter of minutes depending on how large your collection is.

Any ways, I will be needing someone to help with the testing of the application in about 2 weeks.  If you are interested in helping me break it then shoot me an e-mail.  While I always make backups, just realize anything can happen with the data during this phase.

Spreadsheets may still be "overkill," but spreadsheets are generally more readily available to people.  You can find one at a school, home, or office.  If you don't want to pay for Microsoft Excel, there is also the free OpenOffice Calc program.
