Apparently in less than a week, we will receive the Princess in her first solo adventure smile  So, are you are looking forward to this game??  I just hope it's not too cutsey, but otherwise I say it's about time!

cheers,

I really can't wait to try it out; I'm pretty excited as well.  I just hope my DS arrives in time!

XLord007 Feb 22, 2006

I'm not as excited about it as I once was, but I'm still looking forward to picking it up next week.

Jay Feb 22, 2006

Wow, you can control a woman's emotions in this. I've been waiting for this game for years.

SquareTex Feb 22, 2006

Naughty boy... wink

I gotta say, though, this game looks like a blast. It's certainly pushing all the nostalgia buttons. smile

Also, make sure you watch the video, very much worth a look.

I'm not a handheld gamer, so the game doesn't matter to me...

Thanks for the link to the video!
I think he was referring to Cthulhu at the end there... very cool smile

IGN's got their verdict on Peach up.  And I think Joe's thread from last year warrants mention again too.

Thanks for the link!  Not sure I agree with IGN -haven't played the game, but past experience shows that sometimes we have different opinions.  Definitely cool that Peach finally got her own game!  I am a bit suprised that this game ended up being 'easy'...  Of course, I'm even more excited about the upcoming Super Mario game smile  I just hope that since it's clear that Peach can take care of herself, Mario doesn't have to come to her rescue (*yawn*) once again!  And what about the new Zelda game?  Is this going to be Ganon->want's Triforce->Zelda gets captured->Zeld and Link bring down Ganon until next Zelda?  I hope Nintendo can come up with a more original storyline...

cheers,

Sorry, Tezuka confirms in an NP interview that, "...as usual, Princess Peach has been kidnapped... We didn't really want to have a more complex story than that."

He also mentions that there will be no voices, more classic sounding sound effects, arranged classic Mario tunes, and no Yoshi.

In terms of gameplay, saving will only be allowed between worlds (not levels) to encourage replaying as in the original SMB and levels will have branching paths a la SMW.

THANK YOU. I was already quite pleased to hear the 8-but sound effects, but no voices is a dream come true. I've hated the Mario voices ever since they debuted. The rest of the news is pretty pleasing too, especially the similarities to SMW's branching and saving.

Gave Peach a lengthy playthrough today, and I think Joe's previous impression thread sums up most things quite well.

Although I'm only just about done with world 2, so far the game's been a fun, breezy romp.  Collecting is just as much a part of the enjoyment as actually getting through the levels.  The vibe/emotion system is quite apt, and there's a great balance in using all of the abilities at any given time.  If I had to make a complaint about it, though, it's that I wished there was a designated button (like maybe one of the top shoulder ones) to cancel out any particular vibe, rather than having to touch the screen again.  It's a little difficult to be in mid-float, with, say, the cyclone joy vibe, then having to touch to stop, and then move your hand back to the control buttons to umbrella-float to that ledge.

The save/suspend feature is much appreciated, as the levels seem to be getting more and more like Yoshi's Island in scope length.  Fan service abound, with lots of neat Mario-esque graphical touches.  Boss battles have been pretty engaging, in that old-school pattern based way, and constantly upgrading at the shop gives off a nice sense of a "developing adventure" as well.

Mm, and I'm surprised (and a bit disappointed) that they didn't use the awesome instruction manual's front cover for the main box art:

Wow, that artwork for the booklet is really awesome.  I agree they should've used it as the cover!

And... I'm left feeling I've got nothing more to say about the game than what I did before.  It's fun, if a bit easy.  Buy it (assuming you have a DS, which in Japan if you don't and want one, you're pretty much screwed)!

DS' are rather easy to find here in the US; I know it is a rather odd turn of events, but why don't the Japanese just import them?

Qui-Gon Joe Mar 2, 2006

Well, the shops that import them are charging an arm and a leg.  And anyway... as of today who would import the crappy old model instead of getting a gorgeous Lite?  I'm really glad I'm patient... otherwise I would be really upset by the fact that the things apparently sold out before I got to work this morning.  O.o

Ryu Mar 2, 2006

I really can't wait to actually hold the new model because it so far doesn't stand out as all that aesthetically special to me.  The only reason I would get it would be if the screen was larger, which it isn't... brighter doesn't seem all that necessary.  It really doesn't appear to be as big a jump as GBA to SP or even as necessary as the SP frontlit to SP backlit.  However, I'll admit that if I didn't own a DS I would wait to get the new model.

I just read GameFront's coverage.  Many Tokyo shops had 100-400 people waiting to buy the DS Lite, and estimates are that Nintendo had only 450,000 units ready for today.  Considering this is only a modest redesign of existing platform, this level of demand is very impressive.  Cheers to Nintendo.

On an related note, if any of you have been following Reggie's "blue ocean" corporate speak speeches, you should note that what's going on in Japan with the DS is exactly what he's talking about.  Shop owners in Japan noted that the people waiting in line to buy the DS Lite were the most diverse group yet seen queing up for a video game product... Nintendo's market expansion efforts are clearly working.

Nah, that's the number for the whole month, the first shipment was only about a forth of that minus further two third for the faulty Ice Blue and Enamel Navy models which start a week later due to irregular colors in the first production... That month there will be 200,000 further classic DS units shipped though. =P

Yes.  But we're not talking about me here.  I AM curious, though, if behind your sarcasm you know of an internet retailer that will ship Western game products to Japan relatively cheaply.  It would save a lot of hassle for the friends of mine who send me my games...

NCSX ships U.S. games overseas.  I have no idea if they do it cheaply or not though.

Oh, my mistake.  Still, it's amusing to think that those combined 650,000 units are probably all going to sell on arrival.

Here I am, more than a year later.

Super Princess Peach is awesome, and was more fun than Super Paper Mario.

Princess-Isabela May 17, 2007

not as awesome as Yoshi's Island DS.
getting 100% in all levels were just getting crazy at some points(especially world 5).
dare I say the best platform game on DS?...yes it is.
New Super Mario Bros and Princess Peach are great too but lack of challenge really disappointed me.

Zane May 17, 2007

I'm going to disagree with Yoshi's Island. It looks and plays a lot like the original, but it just felt hollow to me. I just wasn't having any fun with it, and the dead spot between screens almost ruined the experience for me.

NSMB and Peach did not have much challenge at all, but they had what Yoshi's Island lacked: fun.
