Yo, I'm looking for recommendations on fighting game soundtracks ranging from good to awexome.

I already have stuff like The Bouncer and Street Fighter Tribute.

I'm looking in the direction of Tekken and Virtua Fighter; is any of that stuff any good?

Also, where does the music in this movie come from, and what is it supposed to be a parody of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1S0xbAf … 6page%3D41

The music in that movie is from Tekken 4, "Fetus [Story Mode Prologue]" by Satoro Kousaki, followed by (I think) Tekken DR's "Martial Symphony Opus 5" by Yoshihito Yano.

As far as fighting game music goes, I swear allegence to the post-Tekken Tag era. Tekken 4 is my current favorite fighting OST, with Tag and 5/DR right behind. I got tired of the whole Capcom-era arcade synth rock stuff after a while, but I do recommend the Alph Lyla arrange album from Street Fighter II. N.EX.T's Guilty Gear XX #RKV OST is great, too.

Pretty much all the Tekken soundtracks are good except 4 its ass.  My favorites are both volumes of Tekken 2 Strike Fighting.  Still the best music in the series and I'm really looking forward to 6.

I personally gave up on fighters long ago but the soundtrack(s) that come to my mind are the two for Soul Blade/Edge. The PS1 version of the game has the original arcade score and one exclusive to the home release, I beleve it was dubbed "Khan Super Session."

Both are on CD but are over 10 yrs old, so I'm sure they aren't easy to find. I myself can't remember which score I perfered but I myself wouldn't mind having them. There are few annoying tracks but I enjoyed the majoirty of both... especially the music for the opening FMV. Of course I always wanted to strangle the announcer on the game, especially in Edge Master Mode. I remember that day I chucked my controller because of that mode VERY well, LOL.

Not much to say about Virtua Fighter music as a whole...Some catchy stuff in the early goings (1 and 2), but it's been really generic and unmemorable material since then.

Never been a Tekken fan, but it's probably good stuff by techno standards. I've heard it off and on during gameplay and a piece or two here and there("Moonlit Wilderness" from the BSC), but I'd never sit down and listen to it seriously.

I still listen to a lot of fighting game soundtracks (everything Guilty Gear, the King of Fighters and Garou arranged albums, the Capcom VS series soundtracks, Battle Arena Toshinden 2), but the genre's just f---ing dead right now. I'd be glad to get a decent game, much less a decent soundtrack.

One cool recent one was the King of Fighters Maximum Impact 1 soundtrack. Really hardcore techno/rock stuff (It's hard to pin down what style that one was). Capcom Fighting Evolution is cool, but it was really short. Both were 2004-ish. And if you can stand the license, Dragonball Z3 had some great jazz/techno/rock material (Z1 and Z2 did as well, but they butchered the soundtrack release, so it's hard to recommend over the gamerips). And hopefully the Smash Brothers Brawl soundtrack will prove to be interesting with the all-star cast it has (probably will just be a gamerip).

And if you're counting brawlers (Final Fight-style games, ala the Bouncer, which you listed), there's both Shin Sangokumusou BB (my favorite soundtrack from last year) and God Tracks!

My favorites are Street Fighter EX2, EX2 Plus, SF3 New Gen Arrange, SF3 Third Strike, and SFZ3.

For Tekken, the Tekken 3 panoply is the best for my money and VF is only good for the first two.

The OST to the Capcom's PS2 Jojo game is also pretty tasty.

Was there ever a soundtrack release for the Playstation version of the original Tekken?

That one is my favorite fighting game soundtrack.  Seperating the two, I might marginally favor the original arcade score, but the Khan Super Session one is great as well.

Other than that, I've never been too into fighting game soundtracks, except of course for Smash Bros. (particularly Melee) and TMNT Tournament Fighters.

If you're including beat'em ups, which is what I'd consider The Bouncer to be, then it's all about Streets of Rage II.  TMNT IV is great too, especially the SNES version.

Apparently, there was going to be one (VICL-19720), but it was cancelled - possibly due to the game music already being in redbook format (ie, straight audio tracks that you could play in a CD once you skipped past the data track).

I'm a big fan of SNK's stuff throughout the years. In particular I'll be crazy and recommend the Last Blade games because of their beautiful orchestral scores (that's from the AST, but the original compositions are just as Orchestral sounding as a 16Bit system can allow) which makes them unique to the genre (Soul Calibur 2 comes close, but then I don't listen to much Namco stuff because as games, I don't care much for SC or Tekken).

As for the more traditional Fighting Game scores, I like Real Bout Fatal Fury and RBFF Special, KoF 96-2000, KoF XI. I agree with Goldfish that MI was nice  (Really liked that Night Club stage theme), but I have to say MI2 was better just a tad especially with that awesome NeoGeo StartupvChime remix.

I'll go with the Rival Schools United By Fate ost, definitely worth tracking down (but skip the sequel, Project Justice ost was a joke).

As for SNK music, there's a Samurai Shodown boxset that was released in 2004, although I don't think otaku.com carries it anymore. However I think they still carry the AtomisWave SamSho ost which if I remember correctly also includes the Arrange version of SamSho 5 (you gotta love the Beach Stage song and the moody Introduction theme!)

I also recommend looking for cheap copies of Neo-Geo cd-rom versions of Fatal Fury Special, Fatal Fury 3, and Samurai Shodown 2. They all have arrange versions of their soundtracks in redbook and are much cheaper than the actual Ast releases, all you have to do is trim off the 7-8 seconds of silence at the end of the tracks you fancy and you'll be golden.
Oh, you also have to raise the recording volume a little bit, too. But still, the cd-roms are definitely more affordable so it's worth the extra werk.

I have to agree, what I can remember this score was definately memorable but when I find anything RS its always the one for the sequel. I'm not really hunting for it but it might be worth looking into a some point if I stumble upon it.

Dragoon Might by Konami (arcade).  Old-school.  And good.

All of the Street Fighter III albums kick ass too.

Also, if you can find it, Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer for Neo Geo CD.  The fighter themes are all vocals! ^^

Please do yourself a favor and track down the awexome fusion greatness that is:

Street Fighter EX Arrange Sound Trax
PCCB-00251

The music is the same stuff you hear in the PlayStation game's arranged sountrack.  But it's also not the same.  Yes, that does make sense.  And yes, it's worth the money.

Magical Penguin Oct 15, 2007

Is the Street Fighter EX2 original soundtrack hard to find? I've only come across it once in the past two months, though I've seen just about every other Street Fighter soundtrack at least three times.

Magical Penguin Jan 28, 2008

Does anyone know if the Samurai Spirits Zero soundtrack on the Onban Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkakuden Zero no Maki soundtrack is the same as the Samurai Spirits Zero soundtrack that came with the Samurai Spirits Collection box?

Princess-Isabela Feb 1, 2008

and don't forget about fenomenal Soul Calibur series!
