Ok, I know these are going to sound like stupid questions but I'm not sure...

With paypal if you can send a payment you can recieve a payment? Or do you need a higher type of account with more features to sell something?

Is there a fee for recieving funds from another that isn't from an e-bay auction?

I ask because I have an account to make it easier to deal buy from sellers here and CC but I have a never sold anything. I have a few soundtracks I was planning to post for sale - I didn't want to post them until I know I can recieve payments.

Yup, you can receive payments with a non-verified account. Just tell people to send a payment to your PayPal address. There is a fee for receiving money, a formula for which can be found at http://www.ppcalc.com/  I always thought it was 3%, but apparently the standard rate is 2.9% + 30 cents. Keep the fee in mind when determining prices for what you're selling.

Thanks for the info, my account is verified but I was just unsure if I could recieve payments since I have the smallest type of account...

I believe there is some sort of limit to how much money you can receive in a given time period (with the basic account), but it varies by region, and I'm not even sure what it is here. I also think there isn't a fee applied to the basic account, except when accepting currency from another country. Likewise, I don't think you can receive credit card payments.

It's all spelled out in PayPal's fee schedules, if you're inclined to poke around their poorly structured help section.

I did a little searching, and I think this does a good job of summing up their fees:

It turns out that there's no fee if you have a Personal account and the payment was funded by the person's PayPal balance. You are allowed to receive payments funded by credit card with a Personal account, but there's a large fee assessed, and you're limited to 5 transactions a year.

I'd also recommend taking a look at www.paypalsucks.com, as there are certain risks involved with using PayPal. I haven't had any problems, but it's still best to be wary.

I actually just discovered this out for myself tonight a few hours ago, lol. The payment was quite small so I didn't lose much but I'll keep it in mind for future transactions.

I don't really like PayPal. I think the idea is great, and PayPal was actually a decent company when they began, but they have now been swallowed by that evil known as ebay... Of course ebay itself is a good idea but it's run by a bunch of bastards. Anyway, I have to admit that PayPal is useful. If I were you I'd probably upgrade my account, although I'd say It depends on whether you wish to sell on ebay. If you're just planning on selling/trading in this community (STC), then you probably don't need to to.

cheers,

if youre just selling occasionally and lower priced items, paypal can suck a huge chunk out of your incoming money, but once you get down to the 2.2% bracket its not as noticeable...
